Hi~ Does anyone know anything about the Abram Balm family that was living in Clinton county in the 1850 census? They were in Bloomfield Twp. at the time. I can't locate them in the 1860 census, but two of the sons served in the Civil War from Missouri, so they may have been there or somewhere nearby. In the 1870 census, the wife is living in Clinton county with another family (Wesley Cook family), so I'm guessing Abram had died by then. The family is: Abram Balm -- b. abt 1807 in NY Catharine Balm -- b. abt 1811 in Canada Henry Balm -- b. abt 1833 in Canada Jane Balm -- b. abt 1835 in Canada Hiram Johnson Balm -- b. abt 1839 in Canada David Balm -- b. abt 1841 in Canada Samantha Balm -- b. abt 1842 in Canada William Alvin Balm -- b. abt 1844 in Canada Almira Balm -- b. abt 1845 in Canada Anna Balm -- b. abt 1848 in Iowa They're supposed to have immigrated in 1847. Since Catharine was living with the Cook family in the 1870 census, I'm hoping that she's related (an aunt or something). My theory (which I have pretty much no basis for) is that Abram might be the half-brother of Robert Cook (Wesley's father). Ultimately, I'd like to find out who Abram's parents are (or even Catharine's parents for that matter), but in the meantime, I'd love to hear from anyone with more information on this family or that has a connection with this family and would like to receive or exchange information. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as well! Thanks, and take care! "-) Justina Cook "-)
