Look how he writes his D's on the manifest, as in Davenport. Also the mark which could appear to be a crossed T appears in several places on the manifest. Whether it's a Denison or Dennison, can't say but also note that he does not include states with the city location so I don't think the (fa or Ia, or La,) have anything to do with it. Do the later Clinton co. census records you have Fred on indicate a circa imm. date? There is a publication "Immigration and Naturalization Records" authored by P. William Philby. It is a huge tome with several supplements. Larger genealogical research facilities probably have copies. Might try that as a source for hubby's grandfather. Happy Turkey. Dick
