Powell was born in New York State and his parents were from England. In 1870 he married Sarah (Brant) Brackett the widow of John Brackett in Berrien County, Michigan. In 1871 their first daughter Olive Powell was born in Iowa. Their other children were: Allie Powell born 1873 in Sterling, Iowa, Madison Powell born 1875 in Iowa, Elnora born 1879 in Clinton, Iowa, Eva Powell born 1881 in Iowa, John G. Powell born 1882 in Michigan and George T. Powell born 1889 in Minnesota. By 1900 Sarah (Brant) Brackett Powell was living back in Berrien County, Michigan with all of her children. She is listed as a widow in the 1900 census. I am looking for John Powell in the 1880 census and for his death records.
