It also shows that he immigrated in 1836. Since he was only 2, he prob. didn't come alone. His 1915 census record shows that he was in the Civil War, serving in Co. F, 45th Illinois Infantry, so I would check those military records for where he was in Illinois in about 1865. It also shows that he had been in the U.S. for 78 years, but in Iowa only 62 years, coming in about 1838.
