I've "rescued" an old photograph of M. J. IORNS of Mount Vernon, Iowa which was taken at the Gilbert Temple Studio in Clinton, IA. The photograph is dated 1892 with Mr. IORNS appearing to be in his 20's or 30's at the time it was taken. It was discovered along with other photographs of students from the Class of 1892 at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, IA so I'm guessing that he was a student there as well. Based on limited research I believe that I was able to locate the family in census records as follows: 1800 census of Welton, IA: Henry IORNS, age 41, a Grocer, born OH, parents born OH Rebecca IORNS, wife, age 40, Keeping House, born OH, parents born OH Leola IORNS, dau, age 18, at Home, born OH Martin IORNS, son, age 18, at School, born IL James GOLD, boarder, age 20, a Grain Buyer, born OH, parents born OH 1900 census of Chicago, IL - a lodger in the home of James A. & Josephine I. HUME: Martin J. IORNS, age 33, born May 1867, born LA, parents born OH, a Student I'm hoping to locate someone from his family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to the care of his family.
