I got a reply from another Clinton County genealogist who told me that. The reason I thought it was a mental hospital was because my mother inferred that he sort of fell apart and the Army discharged him on a Section II, which I understand is probably Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or depression. I'm trying to find out exactly what a Section II is. There are numbers after it in his discharge papers.

At that time that part of Clinton was called Lyons. My sister went to Lyons High School and I remember they played their basketball games at Schick hospital. The veterans (a lot of them were in wheel chairs) used to come and watch the games. Lyons High School was just south of the hospital. A research suggestion: the VA might have the records you're looking for.

Have never heard it referred to as a mental hospital - just an army hospital that took care of WWII soldiers - would assume for all ailments. It's still there but the buildings are now used for apartments, a nursing home, etc. Doubtful records of the hospital are still available in Clinton. Would recommend trying the Clinton Library or the Clinton County Historical Society for more info on the hospital. Hope this helps.

He was quite famous as a professional footballer who played for England in the20's/early 30's. He was one of 6 brothers and sisters who were all born in Blackburn, Lancashire. His father was John William, and I think his father was John William also. The family came from a very small village called Worlaby in Lincolnshire which is near Hull. I believe JWH ( the First!) married in Hull. What info do you have? I could be your long lost English cousin!! David.

I haven't learned anything about their travel or what port they arrived in U.S. Legend has it Sarah and youngest daughter Sarah (Ada) were waiting for the rest of the family to arrive. I always thought they must have known someone here to make their journey alone. Most of their daughters married in Clinton and moved on. Only one daughter lived out her life in Clinton. The parents and two youngest moved on to Southern IA and into Missouri. Do any of these names sound familiar? Bonnie Grimmius

I was a Martensen till marriage and have been attempting to search my family for years. I had several roadblocks along the way, not the least of which was my parents divorce, and some very "private" older relatives, then the jump across the ocean my gr. grandfather took in 1905-6. My Martensens came from the farming area just outside Flensburg, Schlesvig- Holstein Denmark. My great grandfather was in the military. He came to America and first stayed with farming families in western Iowa before bringing his family over and moving to Nebraska. We were given to understand that several family came with him but one branch lost track of another and in just a couple generations we were missing family members. Eventually our "branch" moved to the Washington coast via Texas and parts in between. I was born in 1961 in Enumclaw, King, Washington. My current address is POBOX 152 ! Anatone, WA. 99401 I would very much like to correspond with anyone remotely related, even just through the correct spelling of the name (haha). My correlated families include...Kloth, Petersen...Darn, I don't have my files with me... anyway, I would love to hear from you. Sincerely, Debra Martensen Wilson.
