Their child John Blessington (1825) married Mary Anne Howley of Lowell Mass. They had Mary Ann Blessington who married James Stuart who had my great grandfather, Charles Francis Stuart in Clinton Iowa in June 1879. It is nice to know who their daughter Margaret Blessington married. Margaret Reilley (1786) and John Blessington (1785) are buried in Holy Cross Cemetery, a.k.a Mill Creek Clinton, Iowa. John Blessington 1825 and wife Mary Ann Howley 1833 are there as well.

I didn't get a notification a reply had come in. The 1925 atlas you refer to was actually for Liberty twp. Lost Nation was the post office that served the area. I sent you the 1900 census image for Fred and the 1930 for Fred & family. Still don't find them in 1910 or 20. Dick

I do show listing in Directory of Farmers 1905, Brookfield Twp, town of Elwood; 1925 Atlas of Clinton Co. shows land ownership in Lost Nation; death certificate shows Fred lived in Lost Nation from 1930 until his death in 1933. I know he came to US in 1895. Perhaps he was in Dennison until 1905 when he married in Lost Nation. It's quite a puzzle. Mary Beth

I surfed NARA (Nationa Archives & Records Administration) websites for anything re emigration records. I called my nephew who I consider better than I am at this and also called a good friend who is a city archivist in Rhode Island. Nothing! You might try contacting local area gene societies in the San Francisco area (San Francisco county) for any assistance they can provide. And let's use this scenario. A ship leaves S.F. and heads for Hawaii, does it's thing there and continues it's journey. If it goes directly to Australia, it will show up in your records as coming from Hawaii, not San Fran. If it makes other stops enroute, it may be shown as arriving from it's last port. You could be looking for Clinton co. folks arriving on a ship coming out of Bangkok, Thailand. Another thing, these were not cruise ships, or even passenger ships. They were mostly cargo vessels and i! f the left a U.S. port with freight, they may have carried passengers if space were available. And working backwards, An Australian ship leaving the states will carry passengers rather than travel back to Australia empty. Dick

Have you identified likely ports from which they may have left (New Orleans, California) for that era? You could then search for what records those ports may have had. -----Original Message----- From: iaclinto-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:iaclinto-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of bndoneil@iprimus.com.au Sent: December 01, 2006 3:01 PM To: IACLINTO-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [IACLINTO] HELP - EMIGRANTS FROM CLINTON TO AUSTRALIA - c1886/87 This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. In my years of genealogy research I have never saw the question asked or even wondered about it. Can't find any search engine references for it either. But there would be nothing in Clinton co. that woul help you. When they left Clinton they could have gone down the Mississippi river for ports in New Orleans, Louisiana or Texas ports of Galveston or Corpus Christi. But that would have meant a much longer voyage with the Panama Canal not yet in existence. They probably went west, San Francisco Calif. being the major port on the Pacific coast. But any chance of finding records would be your access to data on New Zealand or Oz immigration records. Dick

Orson Tarbell Conery and Sarah Graves were the parents of my grandmother, Ruby Conery. I have a firm birth date for her as Apr 7,1867. I learned tonight in antoher search that Orson J Conery was recorded on 1895 Iowa State census in the same county, Buchanan, as Orson T and wife. So, could O J's birth be 1895, rather than 1865? I noticed your note here is very old, so maybe you have this all resolved. Would appreciate the advice. Thanks. JD
