Hi Shelley, I was born & raised in De Witt, Clinton co. Approaching Clinton from the west on the old Lincoln highway (U.S. 30) was a hill called "Keister's hill). The 1885 state census has a household of G.W. & Mary Keister with a 19 y/o son Benjamin B. This is in Lincoln twp. which is the area where the hill is located. The 1895 state census indicates the family has moved to the 3rd ward of Clinton indexed as RUSTER but Benjamin has left the nest. Geo W. & Mary Keister are still in city of Clinton in 1900. Dick May you live to be a hundred, with an extra year to repent! I've "rescued" an old photograph of B. B. KEISTER of Clinton, Iowa which was taken at the Gilbert Temple Studio in Clinton, IA. The photograph includes the date 1892 appearing to be a photograph from the Class of '92, likely from Cornell College like the other photographs recovered from the same source. Mr. KEISTER appears to be in his 20's at the time the photograph was taken. I am hoping to be able to return the photograph to its rightful place with family. Hello Lisa; I looked through some of the census and found a couple of entries ..... In the 1910 census, there is a Carl and Wilhelmine Winkler living in Spring Rock, Clinton, Iowa. Both born in Germany and parents as well - He in 1834 and she in 1851. It appears that this is the 4th marriage for him and the second for her. He is living on his own income. She has given birth to one child and one is living in 1910. They have been married for 15 years. He arrived in 1877 and is naturalized, she arrived in 1885. In the 1885 Iowa census, Carl is living in Wheatland with his wife Margaret. Also in the home are Reinhold, 20 and Emma 11. Reinhold and Carl are both working on the RR. In the 1900 census, Reinhold and wife Minnie A. with daughter Ella N. 1, are living in Spring Rock, Clinton. He is working as a clerk ??? and they have been married two years. By 1910 they have two children, Elenora A. 11 (Ella) and Agnes J. 9. Reinhold is a salesman of general merchandise living in Spring Rock.. These census records appear to be related to your family, but I will let you decide. If you would like copies of the original sheets, please email me and I'll be happy to send them to you. Also in looking at the Rootsweb site for Clinton, Iowa ...I did a search on Winkler and came up with an Emma who married in Clinton. She was born in 1871 and came to the US when she was five. Here is the link to the Family tree of her husbands' family.... Worth a look anyway. http://www.rootsweb.com/~iaclinto/people/outlines/stehben.htm Good luck in your search.
