Iowa which adjoins Clinton co. And there in 1880 you will find the household of Hermann & Anna Tebbe, born Prussia. Several Iowa born children in the h/h including 17 y/o Hannah. Herman and Anne are in the same place in 1870. Indexed on Ancestry as FEBBE and on Heritage Quest as FIBBE. Johanna is 7. Also might want to visit Cathy LaBath's excellent Scott co. website CelticCousins. Tebbe family members buried in Big Rock cemetery. Good luck in your research and just a suggestion on future posts. Vague requests like "any information" and "more information" are usually passed over by research volunteers who will not be wanting to duplicate already known data. Request specific records you need to further your own research. You'll receive more beneficial responses. Dick

Their daughter, Emma Tebbe Detlefsen, was my great-grandmother. Any information would be appreciated!

    3. John, The Frances Banta Waggoner library in De Witt has microfilms of the Observer. Keep in mind obits as we know them today did not exist back then except for more prominent citizens of the locale. Often it was just a one or two line item anywhere in the paper relating to the event. One or two publications after the death may have to be checked. She has given me some good info. This is a problem with the river men they live here and there and everywhere. Upstream and down. A lot of them retire somewhere other than where they lived while they worked the boats. Thanks for the info because I am closer to the museum in Rock Island than to Clinton and that museum has a wonderful index and newspapers. . from Dryers writing; "Fourth of July I found myself in Keokuk, Iowa, and a few days after that I shipped on the steamer DAN THAYER owned by the P. S. Davidson Lumber Company, LaCrosse, Wisconsin. I. H. Short was captain; Chas. Short, second pilot; Chas. Burrell, chief engineer; Jas. Ferguson, second engineer; Dave Judson, mate" "We landed in Clinton, Iowa, one day on our way up the river and he said we would be there about two hours. I went uptown to mail a letter and was gone about one-half hour, but when I did get back, the boat was making the crossing below Lyons and I didn't have a coat, vest, or a cent and had to "railroad" to LaCrosse. Nice man. He was one of a family of five brothers, all pilots; Jerome E., Allen M., George C., Chas. M., and Ira H., better known as "Windy," all good pilots and all have made "their last landing."

The 1910 & 1920 Clinton census for Oliver & Nettie McMahon/MaMahan do not list an occupation for Oliver. The 1900 Clinton for O.P. McMahan has one but I can/t make it out. But going back to the 1880 for Rock Island, R.I. co, Il has the household for boat captain Oliver P. & Nettie MCMAHN. Living next door is river captain Albert E. & Etta Duncan. Albert's brother James lives with them as a boat worker. Dick
