    1. Swedish ANDERSON from Clinton island
    2. Dear Clinton Iowa Experts: I am trying to trace the family of my husband's great-grandmother "Nettie"/Angnetta ANDERSON, born 1896. I will tell you what I know in the hopes that someone can help me. Nettie grew up on an island farm "in the near vicinity" of the town of Clinton, Iowa. Both of her parents were Swedish, but her son Arnold (now in his late 80s) believes she was born in Clinton, Iowa. The island was in the Mississippi River. "They were always prepared in case of flooding, had a boat always tied to the front stoop in case it was needed." They had to use it on various occasions. Nettie told her son about snakes on window sills during floods. She had no brothers or sisters. Her father wanted her to speak Swedish, and had her go to both English and Swedish schools. Her father, Mr. _____Anderson, worked in the city of Clinton, Iowa. Nettie's parents eventually moved to Chicago "to find work , which was not as easy to find at that time in the smaller town of Clinton, Iowa." That would have been some time before WW1. I was hoping that one of you wonderful people would have some suggestions where to go with this - 1) Were there any Mississippi islands used for farming very near Clinton, Iowa at that time? Any ideas of its name? 2) Was there a Swedish school in the Clinton area? Maybe connected with the Lutheran church? How about a Swedish-speaking Lutheran church? 3) Any helps with the Anderson name? (I know - this will be tough!) Thank you for letting me bend your ear.... Sincerely, Katherine

This is brought to you by the Mid-Continent Library in Missouri but many of the charts that I looked at did Not have MO ancestors. I did a search for "Clinton Co, IA" (just like that with the quotations and punctuation as that is how the counties are presented on the site) and came up with four pedigree charts for Clinton Co., IA. I also found two for Monroe Co., IA. You just never know where you might find info and this seems like a wonderful source. Good Luck with it.
