I sent you a nice long letter regarding the Flemming family, but today I received a message that my letter was not delivered due to some problem. I want to correct a error I made regarding Henry Specht. I told you he Immigrated from Germany with his uncle. I should have said Henry Specht Immigrated from Germany with his Nephew , Charles Westphal. Charles Westphal was born in 1869 in Hamburg, Germany . He is the son of Fredericka Specht, who is the sister of our Henry Specht. Charles lived in Preston and he too served as School director, as did his Uncle Henry Specht. Charles Westphal married Emma Jebsen, the daughter of Gustave Jebsen. Gustave Jebsen is the brother of my Great Grandfather Heinrich Henry Jebsen.

Hello Everyone: The most terrible thing happened at my house -- to make room for a game, my son deleted all my document files: all my genealogy stuff, Clinton databases, web sites -- all gone! I do have a back up, but it is from last November. The good news is that I can get back everything that is online. I have also recovered some stuff from my mailbox, but not much unfortunately. I cannot even begin to tell you the number of projects that I will have to start over. One of them being the scans for the 1925 atlas that the volunteers were working on - so, this project will be postponed for awhile. If you have sent me any info or files that are not on our website right now, could you please resend the info? For any of you that had asked for copies of things or look-ups from the Historical Society: As it states on our webpage, I really don't have time to do those. I am working on getting some more contacts who are in a much better position and so much more knowledgable than I am about Clinton County. I will post the info to the mailing list when I get it. I hope that you all will close this email and take whatever measures you need to to make back-ups of your data. Take care and enjoy whatever weather we are getting at the moment <grin>. My great grandfather was Anton Kreucher, and when his wife died in 1896, he moved to Laurel MS with his son Joseph and Joseph's first wife Alma Maud Henderson, and Anton's daughter Fredricka Kreucher Johannson. They were all from the Clinton area, but moved to Laurel so that Anton and Joe could work at Gardiner Green Lumber. Anton died in 1900, and the Lumber Co buried him in the cemetery near there. I imagine that these were friends and neighbors that all moved to MS together to help start this Lumber Yard. We always wondered why Mississippi? Now we know. If anyone has information about these people, I would love to have anything further. Thanks. My Great Aunt Fredricka stayed in the south for the rest of her life. She lived to be 103. My Great Uncle Joe is buried in Laurel Mississippi in Hickory Grove Cemetery, as is my great grandfather.

This side is the "lost side" of my family. My great grandmother Francis Flemming left North Dakota and married her widowed brother in law (formerly Lena's husband) William Moeller. In that jackson county book she is thought to be a man married to a "Jane" Wasbeck and living in Lyons. She was married to a John Julius Vossbeck (current spelling of the name) at the time. So some of it should be taken with a grain of salt. I will bet you could find Jebsen's in the same book. Apparently Henry Specht was robbed of $10,000 at some point because there is a lot about that in the book...some controversy implied also. Good luck with your research! You are a "find". Thanks to Richard Carstensen and checking the 1870 Lyons Census at the FHC yesterday, I found that yes, as I had guessed, Gideon A. Russell had married Mary Pier before he m Emeline Kellogg! But what a lesson in not pre-judging! I figured, since he'd married Emeline in Cooperstown NY (where they all were from) Mary had died there, and then they moved to Lyons. But no! There was the record: Gideon A, Mary, keeping house, and FOUR children. AND Melissa Pier, 70, living with daughter! Proof at last! All four children of Mary and Gideon: George E., Ada, Franny (Fanny) and Fred A., were born in IA. Then I looked again at the cemetery records Richard had sent me (thanks again!) and there were the 3 of them! RUSSELL ADA 09/13/1870 OLD 6 8 11 RUSSELL MARY 11/14/1870 OLD 6 8 10 RUSSELL GEORGE E. 07/24/1874 07/27/1874 Lyons Mirror 8/1/1874 OLD 6 8 9 Mary and Ada, 9, had died the year of the Census. Gideon married Emeline 21 Jan 1874, so he must have gone back to Cooperstown at sometime. Did Melissa go with him?? George E.? And then George d 7 months later. Still lots of questions. But it looks a though I might be able to get an obit or notice for George from the Lyons Mirror, eh? Well, I'm over the moon! Thanks again to all for your help and suggestions. Jean

This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: McClimon, Daily, McCoy, O'Grady Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Qk.2ADI/2053 Message Board Post: In the 1880 census, 2 yr old Mary McCoy is living in Washington Twp, with her grandparents, John & Mary Daily McClimon. According to McClimon cousins, Mary died when she was 16, which would have been about 1894. Its also believed that she was the daughter of Mary McClimon & Hugh or Henry McCoy, but if so, the enumerator was confused, as Mary McClimon is also listed as living with her parents, but as a McClimon, with no way to necessarily identify her as the mother of Mary McCoy. Mary McClimon married Henry O'Grady about 1885, and they didn't have their daughter Mary until 1895, who could have been named in memory of her recently dead sister. If Hugh/Henry McCoy was Mary McClimon's husband, he would have had to die before her marriage to O'Grady, or possibly before the 1880 as he's not listed there. Does anyone know of a Hugh or Henry McCoy who fits these parameters and/or was married to Mary McClimon? Thanks, Alaine
