Hello Everyone: It is supposed to be very hot today here, up around 100. If you have to go outside, please be careful and don't get overheated. I am not going anywhere today, I don't think. We have gotten several submissions for the Tombstone Photo Gallery at http://www.rootsweb.com/~iaclinto/cems/tombpic.htm and promises of several more. I have several things I'd like to get online. Frannie B. has been busy typing while I've been working so it's time for me to play catch-up. I have the next several days off of work and plan to be busy. Check the site often and see what new stuff we have. (Of course, my husband thinks I will be busy cleaning but if I use Pledge and Mr. Clean for air freshener, will he know what I was Really up to? <grin>) The More We Share, The More We Have To Share Nettie Mae <A HREF="http://www.rootsweb.com/~iaclinto/">Clinton County Iowa Gen Web</A> www.rootsweb.com/~iaclinto/ <A HREF="http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ia/clinton/clinton.htm">Clinton County, IAGenWeb Archives Table of Contents</A> http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ia/clinton/clinton.htm www.rootsweb.com/~iaphotos/ IA State Census Project www.iagenweb.org/census/

I have not seen this one before to check out. Her son lived in clinton area and her husband shows up in Oregon in the 1900 census as a widower for 5 years. We know he was in Iowa before coming to Oregon. In 1880 he ran a hotel in Vale, Cawford county, Iowa. Any idea?? Bob Stevens

Hello: I would like to invite you all to visit the newest project of the IAGenWeb: Orphan Train Riders to Iowa at http://iagenweb.org/iaorphans/ There were about 10,000 orphans, young adults and others who were 'placed out' in Iowa between 1853-1919 by various organizations in New York and other large, over populated cities. I don't think any Iowa county was untouched by this phenomena. Currently, we have online about 80 newspaper articles relating to orphans being placed with Iowa families and more to add. We have plans to add so much more information. I hope you will visit the site & share any information you may have regarding orphan trains and the children who came to Iowa. I am searching for some specific, more personal details on Sutccliff Maudsley and his family. Do you have an address or location in Maquoketa for his residence? Do you know of any personal journals or letters regarding any stage of his life??? My husband is the grandson of Carrie Malvina Maudsley England, she of course is the daughter of Marriner G. Maudsley, son of Sutcliff. We live in Utah, while I know that others in the England family may have contacted you in the past, none of my contacts seem to have any good details. My children have done reports on Sutcliff for school, and we have a few personal items from him or his children. As well as a pretty detailed life history of Carrie M. Maudsley and her decendents. I spoke to the director of the LDS church History Museum, he told me a book was being written right now about Sutcliff ....... is that you????? Anything at all that you are willing to share with these direct line decendents would be so very much appreciated. Thank you in advance...... I hear that you are doing a great work......Thank you!!! Patti England [email protected] We are going to? through Maquoketa on Fri., June 28, would love to know a little more before we get there.
Hello Everyone: Boy is it hot here! I think summer may finally be here. Of course, if things go the way they have been, regarding the weather, we will need blankets and jackets by the end of the week! <grin> I have spent my weekend right here in front of the computer and have gotten quite a bit done. If you visit our "What's New" page at http://www.rootsweb.com/~iaclinto/new.htm you will see that June has been a busy month. We have added the text from 1929 Clintonian CHS yearbook, typed up by Richard Carstensen; a photo from Our Lady of Angels Academy, class of 1936; a bit of church history; more of the 1929 Clinton city directory and quite a few family outlines. We also have completed the will index for 1850-1976. Jackie let me know that, if you write to the courthouse for a copy of a will, you need to have the date of death. If you don't, they will not be able to send you the copy. The book and page number is not enough. Mike Kearney has taken it upon himself to research some of the more prominent families of Clinton. He has been working on the Lamb and Young familes and has plans to do a few others. These families were so important to the growth of Clinton and Clinton county. Mike also sent quite a few photos from St. Joseph's Cemetery in DeWitt. This spurred me into thinking and I came up with a neat idea. Wouldn't it be nice to have photos of cemeteries and tombstones online? If you have photos you could share, please visit The Tombstone Photo Gallery Project at http://www.rootsweb.com/~iaclinto/cems/tombpic.htm If anyone with a digital camera would like to go around taking photos, that would be wonderful too. On the Clinton County Historical Society front: They are having their annual Ice Cream Social June 30th. Tickets and details are available at the museum. I hope those of you who live close will consider going. It is sure to be a great time for you and the whole family. The Clinton County Historical Society continues to add great content to our website and it is events such as the Ice Cream Social that keep the society going. I would like to take a minute to thank everyone who is involved in and those who visit the Clinton Co. website. We seem to have a wonderful group of people gathered here who are willing to help each other out. Thank you to everyone who have submitted info, done look-ups, let me know about corrections that need to be made or just written to say they enjoy the website. Thanks also go out to those who are involved in the various gene and historical societies. Your efforts are greatly appreciated by me and all those doing research in Clinton County. So instead I post it here: <<I note with interest that you are related to Homrighausens of Big Rock, Iowa. My grandmother's maiden name was Homrig (shortened a few generations before from Homrighausen), and though she and her people came from Wisconsin, they did have Homrig relatives in Iowa, I believe. I also believe that Homrighausen is an unusual enough name that it must be possible, with some effort, to compile a family tree of the Homrighausens of America (including all variants such as Homrighouse, Homrig, Humrighousen, etc.). To that end, I have been collecting genealogical information. Unfortunately, I have only scratched the surface --- and I am constantly being distracted by other business. Nevertheless, I would be glad to discover what you might know about Iowa (or other) Homrighausens, and would be more that glad to share what info I have on Homrig(hausens) of Wisconsin (and elsewhere).>>
