He attended Fayette County rural schools and Arlington schools. January 21, 1921, he married Esther Gleim at Arlington. One son, Tom L., was born to this union. Esther died in 1931. October 14, 1943 he married Pearl M. Hansel at Colesburg, Iowa. Mr. Richards was associated for over 40 years with Allen Motor Company, working both in Elkader and Cedar Rapids. After retirement from Allen Motors, he was an insurance agent for many years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 72 of Elkader, Cedar Rapids Consistory and ElKahir Shrine. He died Thursday evening, September 12, 1985 at Central Community Hospital in Elkader. Survivors in include his wife, Pearl, Elkader; one son, Tom L. Richards, Platteville, Wis.; two grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Lois Kamper, Arlington. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Esther Gleim Richards; his parents; a sister, Helen Eckheart and two brothers, Jay and Dean Richards. Burial at the Taylorville Cemetery, Arlington, Iowa.
