R.H. Steege officiating. Burial was in the Farmersburg and Wagner cemetery. Mr. Strein died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. James Probert, Tuesday morning, December 15, at 3:20 o'clock, having been in failing health for the last three years. He was confined to his bed for the last three months. He was born on December 31, 1863 in Aulepen Province of Saxony, Germany, the son of Henry and Wilhelmina Shade Strein. He came to America with his parents when 9 years old and settled with them in Nebraska. He was married to Alvina Radloff, September 16, 1887 in the Lutheran church at Gothenberg, Nebraska by Rev. Wiederaenders. They lived near Gothenberg for several years after their marriage and then came to Clayton County and settled on a farm north of Farmersburg. Thirty-five years ago they retired to Farmersburg. In 1936, Mr. and Mrs. James Probert began to live with them. Mr. and Mrs. Strein had the priviledge of celebrating their golden anniversary, September 16, 1937. Mrs. Strein died August 8, 1947. After her death, Mr. Strein continued to live with his son-in-law and daughter. He was a charter member of St. John's Lutheran Church. He spent many hours of labor and freely gave of his means in the building and maintenance of the church. He also served on various committees and as a member of the church council. He was preceded in death by his wife, two children, Alvina, who died when she was 4 years old and a son who died in infancy; one brother and one sister. He is survived by four daughters, Mrs Eldo (Lana) Kurdelmeier of Postville, Mrs. Louis (Minnie) Kurdelmeier of Littlefork, Minn., Mrs. Louis (Alice) Breitsprecher and Mrs. James (Marie) Probert of Famersburg; three sons, Herb of Farmersburg, Fred of Monona, and Karl of Waterloo; one sister, Mrs. Minnie Granger of Gothenberg, Nebr.; 11 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were: Helmuth Oelke, Harley Palas, Carl Mueller, Hebert Zurcher, Harold Kiple, and James Probert Sr. Flower girls were Marilyn Girot and Joyce Koopman.
