My experience with the Guttenberg City Cemetery and some others, is that it is maintained by the City and the sextant is a very nice man who keeps the maps. I know he is responsible for more than one cemetery, and he would know who else maintains the cemeteries. Try contacting the City of Guttenberg, or the County of Clayton to learn about the public cemeteries. In my case, the Sextant looked up the information, went to the cemetery, took photos and sent them to me. When we made our pilgrimage to Clayton Co last Fall and went to the cemeteries, and we happened to run into the Sextant, who remembered us and showed us the headstones of our ancestors. Churches, funeral homes, and libraries are all possibilities. Another idea would be to find out how has the responsibility to maintain the cemetery. There are cases where there is an organization, sometimes private sometimes public, responsible for a specific cemetery and they usually have plot maps and burial information. I can't recall who it was that put the information together, but at Friedlein Cemetery near Millville there was a mail box inside the cemetery with a list of all the burials. This was the most gracious and helpful information I had ever hoped to find for a cemetery. Another idea would be to contact the County office. I suspect they would, at minimum, be able to advise who may have the plot information. You may also try the funeral homes or maybe something at the libraries. Most of the time these are very sketchy if available at all.
