Ulish Roy J. Ulish, 92, of McGregor, formerly of Monona, died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2006 at Great River Care Center in McGregor following a lengthy illness. Private family graveside services were held in the Monona City Cemetery on November 4. Roy John Ulish was born August 24, 1914 in rural Monona, the son of John G. and Flossie (Koth) Ulish. He attended Giard #2 rural school, Monona. November 28, 1939 he married Rosa Voss Lotza in Monona. Roy lived most of his life on the Century Farm his great-grandfather, Casper Ulish, bought in 1854. His grandfather, Phillip Ulish, lived there and farmed the land as did his father, John Ulish. He farmed with horses over 72 years and had a special love for Belgians and Percherons. Over the years it was a weekly event to see Roy and his horses on their way to Monona to have corn ground for his animals. Roy worked for John Kerndt in Waukon for several years. He enjoyed collecting antiques throughout his life and had a special collection of Aladdin Lamps. He is survived by several nieces and nephews. Roy is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rosa who died in 1981; and a sister, Helen. Waukon Standard, November 8, 2006
