Scheffert died here at his home Wednesday, August 7th, after several months illness. Mr. Scheffert was born January 1, 1866, at Mederville, the son of John and Augusta (Meder)Scheffert and thus attained the age of sixty-three years, seven months and six days. February 18, 1882 at Garnavillo, deceased was united in marriage with Anna Berns and to this union four children were born, namely, Mrs Mayme Zapf, of Garnavillo, Mrs Minnie Winch, of Littleport, Erwin of Monona and Frank of Garber, who, together with the widow survive. Clayton county has always been the home of Mr. Scheffert, for twenty-four years he lived near Garber, but since 1914 Elkader has been his home. During his residence in Volga township he served this community as township assessor for a period of eight years. He was a member of the Catholic church and died in that faith. While he suffered much in his recent illness he never made that fact known nor did he ever complain of his condition. Funeral services were held Friday morning, August 9th, at St. Joseph's church and interment was made in St. Joseph's cemetery with Rev. J. P. Taken officiating.
