I have the certificate awarding him the land. Does anyone know what this company did?
Out of curiosity I checked a book I have titled "Garnavillo Iowa, Gem of the Prairie" (published in 1988) and I found one listing for Anson Rudesdell. The following reference is from 1844 for the town of Jacksonville (now Garnavillo in Clayton Co. Iowa). "A public sale of lots at Jacksonville was held on the 17th of April, 1844, and among the purchasers were Gerrard Forbes, of Grant County, Wisconsin, one lot for $21.75; Daniel B. Barber, Anson Rudesell, .................. ". There is a longer list of names included. This was on page 63. This gives you some information as to when he was in Clayton Co. ************************************************************************ *** MESSAGE: (#144446) ANSON RUDSDELL <http://iagenweb.org/boards/clayton/queries/index.cgi?rev=144446> AUTHOR: PAT CALHOUN DATE: 2/7/2007 at 12:57:02 Surnames: RUDSDELL,HATFIELD My ancestor, Anson Rudsdell, received 160 acres in Clayton County in 1851 for his service in "Captain Parker's Company, Service, mounte(?)volunteers," by an Act of Congress approved on February 11, 1847. There is a mention of Captain Parker's Company at this website: http://www.lib.uiowa.edu/spec-coll/MSC/ToMsc100/MsC96/MsC96_fortatkinson.htm l 1846: War with Mexico necessitated the withdrawal of U.S. Army troops from Fort Atkinson, and consequent replacement with Iowa Volunteer units. James M. Morgan of Burlington and John Parker of Dubuque were commissioned captains by Governor James Clarke, and assumed command of the companies known as Captain Morgan's Independent Company of Iowa Volunteers, and Captain Parker's Iowa Dragoon Volunteers.
