Hoth (Elise Sophia Meier ) <http://iagenweb.org/boards/clayton/obituaries/index.cgi?rev=153973> AUTHOR: Patricia Moreho DATE: 4/17/2007 at 15:18:45 Surnames: HOTH,MEIER,GLAWE,BREITSPRECHER,RADLOFF Clayton County Register Thursday June 12, 1958 pg. 5 Mrs. John Hoth Funeral services for Elkader's oldest resident, Mrs. John Hoth, 96, who died Sunday June 1, 1958, at her home in Elkader, were held Wednesday, June 4, at 1:30 p.m. at the Witt Chapel to the Zion Lutheran Church, Clayton Centre, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. J. H. Zerhusen officiating. Pallbearers were Harly Radloff, Leroy Hoth, Ervin Breitsprecher, Harry Hoth, Vernon Hoth, and Leon Hoth, Mrs. Delbert Lamker and Mrs. Glendor Freitag had charge of the flowers. Alise Sophia Meier Hoth was born November 30, 1861, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Meier, in Garnavillo township. At the age of two weeks she was baptized at the Ceres Lutheran Church, Garnavillo township, by the Rev. Mr. Stuckfeldt and was confirmed march 21, 1875, by the Rev. F. W. Seifert at the Zion Lutheran Church, Clayton Centre. She moved with her parents from Garnavillo township, to near Froelich where she resided until her marriage to John Hoth, April 14 1882, at the Zion Lutheran Church, Clayton Centre. They made their home in Read Township, until 1924, when they moved to Elkader where she resided at the time of her death. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1948, one daughter Sophia, and two sons, Albert and Emil. Mrs. Hoth is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Henry (Tena) Glawe, Mrs. Albert (Ella) Breitsprecher and Hilma Hoth, Elkader, and Mrs. Henry (Mahala) Radloff, Postville, and three sons, Edwin, Elkader, Elmer, Farmersburg, and Willis, St. Olaf, 24 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.
