Burial was in the United Brethren Cemetery, St. Olaf. Maud Isabel Olson was born on a farm in Wagner Township on Sept. 19, 1887, the daughter of Ole S. and Margaret Baumeister Olson. Her early life was spent on the farm and she received her education in the rural schools. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of the Norway Lutheran Church, St. Olaf. On Jan. 10, 1906, she was united in marriage to Philip Walter. Their married life was spent on a farm in Wagner Township. Three children were born to this union: Clifford of Luana, Sylvia Meyers of Elkader, and Mrs. Melbert (Marjorie) Hofer of Low Moor, Iowa. Mr. Walter passed away in October 1944. For the past twenty years, Mrs. Walter has spent the winters living in Arizona with her daughter. This past winter she had failed in health and had been hospitalized from the first of the year until the time of her death on April 25th in the Central Community Hospital, Elkader. She reached the age of 86 years, 7 months, and 5 days. She was preceded in death by her husband,and one brother, Arthur Olson. Besides her children, she is survived by 17 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Millard Olson of Clermont, Mrs. Oscar (Nellie) Torkelson, Farmersburg, Lillie Trudo, Luana, and Mrs. Richard (Bertha) Bigler, Elkader; several nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends. Pallbearers were Phillip Hofer, Ronald Hofer, Michael Hofer, Duane Walter, Willis Walter, and Lowell Gehring. Postville Herald newspaper clipping from my mother's obituary collection.
