Wagner Last Rites Held Funeral services for Mrs. Herb Wagner, 77, were held Monday morning, Sept. 20, at 10 o'clock at St. Patrick's Catholic church with Father William J. Menster officiating at the requiem mass. Rev. Msgr. Vernon Peters delivered the sermon and assisted at the graveside service. Burial was in St. Patrick's cemetery. Mrs. Wagner died Friday morning, Sept. 17, at her home in Monona. As Ruth Marie Arnold, she was born the daughter of Samuel and Lavina, nee Gregg, Arnold in Monona township, June 18, 1888. She received her education in the Walnut Grove School. She was married to Herb Wagner, Jan. 11, 1910, in St Patrick's church. At that time she was baptized into the Catholic faith. She was a member of the Rosary society. They farmed in and around Monona until they retired in 1951. Since that time they have lived in the Northside apartments. Preceding her in death were her parents, her brothers, Ernest and John Gregg, two sisters, Floy and Lydia, and a son, Herbert. Surviving are her husband, a daughter, Mrs. Joe (Agnes) Voss of Monona; three sons, Joe of Fayette and Gerald and Tom of Monona; 20 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 17 nieces and nephews. Music at the services was provided by the eighth grade choir of St. Patrick's school. Sister M. Anita was the organist. Honorary pallbearers were: John Krambeer, Wendell Baskerville, Elgie Ferguson, Ernest Lenth, Frank Melcher, Richard Hagensick, Edmund Ryan, and Donald Huinker. Active casket bearers were her grandsons: Gene and Milton Voss, Donald Alfred Wagner, Robert and Kenneth Wagner, James Zeller, and Donald Kirschbaum. Postville Herald newspaper clipping, hand dated 1965, from my mother's obituary collection. Submitter has no further information.
