Services were Thursday, Feb. 28, at Norway Lutheran Church with Rev. Keith Klemm officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Clifford Walter was born Dec. 15, 1906 in Wagner Township in Clayton County, the son of Phillip and Maude (Olson) Walter. He was baptized and confirmed at Norway Lutheran Church and received his education at a rural school in Clayton County. He was married Oct. 10, 1928 to Bertha Sonstegard. The couple had 5 children. He farmed all his life and in 1972 received 3 soil conservation awards on the local, regional and district level. He also was a runner-up in the state contest. He retired in 1975 to his home in Luana and spent winters in Apache Junction, AZ. Survivors include his wife, 2 sons, Duane on the home farm and Willis of Apache Junction, 3 daughters, Elaine, Mrs. Lowell Gehring, Elwood, NE; Jean, Mrs. Ronald Hofer, Luana and Margie Knapp of Apache Junction; 15 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 2 sisters, Sylvia Meyers, Elkader and Margie Hofer, Clermont. Pallbearers were Roger Gehring, Kevin Hofer, Jon Chapman, Loren Walch, John Walter and Mark Hofer. Schultz's Funeral Home, Monona, was in charge of the services.
