Mrs. Mohning was born in Germany, her maiden name being Maria Pepmeyer. She was united in marriage in 1850 to Herman Mohning, who survives her. In 1852 she and her husband came to the United States and settled in Clayton county, where they resided until seven years ago when they came to Plymouth county and made their home with their sons. Mr. and Mrs. Mohning celebrated their golden wedding on the fourth of this month and all their children and a number of relatives were present on the occasion. Mrs. Mohning was held in high esteem by all who knew her. She leaves a husband and seven children. They are Henry and John Mohning, Mrs. Louis Harnack, Mrs. L.H. Schulte and Mrs.[Henry] Fromme of this county and Fred Mohning and Mrs. Heddleman [Hedemann], of Clayton county. All the family were present at her deathbed. The funeral was held on Monday at the German Lutheran Evangelical church, Rev. Hoeppner officiating and was very largely attended. [Maria (Pepmeyer) Mohning was born 18 Nov 1827, died 11 May 1900 and is buried in the Remsen City Cemetery, Remsen, Plymouth County, Iowa.]
