Durr - IAGen DATE: 4/5/2010 at 19:43:19 Surnames: HOWARD,HESSEL,BREITBACH,BLUM,CARNEY Norma Jean Breitbach MCGREGOR, Iowa -- Norma Jean Breitbach, 89, of McGregor, died Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010, at the Prairie du Chien Hospital, following an extended illness. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 6, at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, McGregor, with the Rev. David Zimmer officiating. Inurnment will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, McGregor. Friends may call after 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. The Thornburg-Hanson Funeral Home, McGregor, is in charge of arrangements. Norma Jean Hessel was born on Aug. 18, 1920, at Waukon, daughter of Fred and Josephine Howard Hessel. She graduated form high school in Elkader. She excelled in basketball and continued to have a love for the sport her entire life. On Feb. 7, 1944, she was united in marriage to Norbert Breitbach. They moved to McGregor in 1947, where they raised four children, Dianne, Neil, Jerry and Deb. Norma worked at and retired from 3M in Prairie du Chien. Surviving are a son, Jerry Breitbach, of McGregor; two daughters, Dianne (Robert) Blum, of Holly Ridge, N.C., and Deb Carney, of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Norbert, on Dec. 31, 2004; and her son, Neil, in 1982.
