Fitzgerald, 88, of McGregor died Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at the Great River Care Center in McGregor following a brief illness. Funeral services were held Saturday, February 20 at St. Mary Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery, both in McGregor. She is survived by three children, Mary (Doug) Stahr of Sherrill, Helen (Dan Pearson) Fitzgerald of Madison, WI, and Mike (Pam) Fitzgerald of Marquette; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a brother, John Gilgenbach in Kansas; two brothers-in-law, Ed Meana of Fennimore, WI and John Borden of Marquette; and a sister-in-law, Beverly Gilgenbach of Milwaukee, WI. Dorothy Julia was born May 24, 1921 in Waukon to Peter and Isabel (Jenson) Gilgenbach. She attended school in Waukon. She married Joseph B. Fitzgerald February 25, 1941 at St. Mary Church in Hanover. She worked as a cook at the Marquette Hotel and the Burke Hotel. She was a great cook and baker, especially her pies, cookies and donuts. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1962; sisters Ruth Howard, Viola Meana, Rosemary Schobert, Rita Borden and Karen Minch; and two brothers, Ronald and Michael Gilgenbach.
