Krueger Library, Winona State Univeristy, Winona, MN Genealogists will be present during the 7 Lag Stevne from three Norwegian fylker (large counties or small states): Buskerud fylke—Numedalslågen Lag, Ringerike Drammens Districts Lag, and Sigdalslag Oppland fylke –three 100th anniversary lag from Hadeland, Land, and Toten Telemark fylke –Telelag These groups have genealogists and genealogy committees that have worked with many of the same farms and church parishes in these areas over time. Perhaps they could help you. Each lag group brings many of its own special resources, such as bygdebøker, maps, family histories (and more) to this event just once each summer. The library has the Norwegian Pictorial Review (1959-1984). Library has books about Norwegians in America --and especially Minnesota. The library has wireless capability if you bring your own laptop There are 7 lag classes on using the digital archives from Norway There will be an open computer lab two days The library is equipped with microfilm/microfiche reader-printers Print size is 8.5 x 11 inches for four machines One prints up to 11 x 17 inches (good for newspaper pages). There is also a reader scanner, which saves images to a pdf or tif file. Because this serves as a regional library, there are several newspapers on microfilm or available digitally. Winona Daily News on microfilm from 1947 to the present, but digitally through many name changes: Winona Argus, Winona Daily Republican, and Winona Republican-Herald from 1857. The digital version can be accessed free from anywhere in the world at http://www.winona.edu/library/databases/winonanewspaperproject.htm Chicago Tribune is available digitally April 23, 1849-December 31, 1985 and on microfilm from 1853-1871. Minneapolis Tribune is available digitally 1867-1922 and on microfilm from 1867-1900 and 1984-1992. If you choose to come, you will need to register. A registration form allows access to other classes and entertainment as well as genealogy.
