Durr - IAGen DATE: 5/6/2010 at 18:47:12 Surnames: JELLUM,LOFTSGARD,LARSON,HELGERSON Gilbert Noris Loftsgard, son of Lars T. and Bergit (Jellum) Loftsgard, died at his home Monday evening May 8, at the age of 71 years, 11 months and eight days. He was born May 26, 1895 at Inwood, where he was baptized in infancy. At an early age he moved to his present home with his family. He was confirmed at the Marion Lutheran Church in 1910. On March 2, 1929 he was united in marriage to Bessie Sophia Larson of Clermont at the Lutheran parsonage at Clermont. To this union four children were born: Bernard, Charles, Ronald, all of Elgin and Karol, (Mrs. Steven Helgerson), West Union. Their entire married life was spent in their present home near Gunder. Mr. Loftsgard had been quite active with farming and trucking until his death Monday evening. This year was his 50th year in the trucking business. Surviving are his wife; three sons and a daughter; 11 grandchildren; and four brothers, Theodore L., Mellien V., Arthur L., and Edwin G.; and a host of nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother Helmer in 1949. Services were held Thursday, May 11, at the Marion Lutheran Church, Gunder, with the Rev. Roger Peterson officiating with burial in the Marion Cemetery. Postville, Iowa newspaper of the time clipping, hand dated 1967, from my mother's obituary collection.
