    3. My apology if this comes through the list twice. I sent it yesterday but it never posted. Joye Kohl sends this announcement for any who are interested in attending......... "The Civil War Journey of John Christian Kohls and Jacob Cumley" will be presented by Dr. John Kohl at the McGregor Art Center on Sunday, June 6th at 6:45 pm. The program is a fundraiser for the McGregor Historical Museum. The program tells the story of two Union Army privates in the Civil War and will be augmented with slides. They are both buried in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery. John Christian Kohls was an immigrant from Prussia who came to this country at the age of 17. Jacob Cumley was a native born in Pennsylvania. John was in 15 major battles and many skirmishes before being wounded at Resaca, Georgia with Sherman on his "March to the Sea". He had been in the service for 3 years and 6 months. Jacob was in for the entire period of the Civil War, he was wounded at Aversboro, NC and became a hospital steward just prior to the end of the war. Both in the same Wisconsin company, John and Jacob had survived such famous battles as Antietam where 12,400 Union soldiers were killed, Chancellorsville where 18,000 Union soldiers died and Gettysburg where 23,000 Union Soldiers met their deaths. After the war, John bought a small farm at the top of the John Orr hill and Jacob was a stone mason and cistern builder in McGregor. Dressed as a Civil War soldier, Dr. Kohl will be Private John C. Kohls as he tells the story of the day to day struggle to make it through the war from the viewpoint of the ordinary soldier. The story will begin from the time they enlisted a week after Lincoln's call and continue until the end of the war.
