Schlitter, 78, of Monona, died Saturday, February 6, 2010, at Gundersen-Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, WI. Visitation was from 4-7 p.m. February 8 at Leonard Funeral Home in Monona, Iowa and after 10 until service time on Tuesday, February 9, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Luana with funeral services at 11 a.m. Burial was in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Luana. Arno was born May 24, 1931, in rural Monona to Lester and DELilla (Bollman) Schlitter. He was baptized in 1932 and confirmed in 1957. Arno attended #6 County School through the eighth grade. He did farm work in the area for a time until entering the United States Army in August of 1953. He was united in marriage to Josephine Scheffert on June 14, 1958, at St. John Lutheran Church in Luana. Five children were born to this union. Arno worked for Swiss Valley for thirty-four years. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, playing cards, bingo and fishing. His hobbies were woodworking, doing landscaping and spending time outdoors with wildlife. Survivors include his wife, Josephine Schlitter of Monona; children, Lonnie (Roberta) Schlitter, Fayette, Danny Schlitter, Hazleton, Darla (Mike) Eilers, McGregor, Darryl (Kaaren) Schlitter, Monona and Rodney Schlitter (friend Kris Lewis) Garnavillo; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; step-grandchildren; siblings, Leo (Alice) Schlitter, Bagley, WI, Ruth (Earl) Jones, Harpers Ferry, Jim Schlitter (friend Linda Ambrose), Luana and Violet Long, Cresco; brothers & sisters-in-law, Pat Lumbus, Oelwein, Burdette & Marrol Scheffert, Independence, David & Sherri Scheffert, Oelwein and Margaret Scheffert, Ely and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; mother & father-in-law and several brothers & sisters-in-law. Extracted from a funeral brochure.
