The messenger of death claimed him Sunday afternoon surrounded by his sorrow stricken wife and relatives. Le Gand White was born in McGregor Jan. 5th, 1874 and grew to manhood in this city and was therefore 27 years of age at his death. He was a steady industrious young man full of energy and pluck having established himself in business. He was married to Miss Altha Flagg at the home of the brides sister at Tindale, S. D. Nov. 7th, 1900. They went to housekeeping a week before he was taken sick. The funeral services were held in the Congregational church Tuesday afternoon which was filled with sorrowing friends, and members of the different orders of which he was a member. Itasca Lodge I.O.O.F., Sherwood Camp M.W.A. and the City Fire Department. Itasca Lodge had charge of the services at the grave. Rev. C. A. Marshall officiated. Rev. Marshall touched the heart of many of his audience in his practical way of coming right home to every one. The funeral was one of the largest that occurred in the city for a long time. Le Grand White leaves to mourn his loss, a widow, father Pembroke White, Mother Caroline Francis "Perry" White, and three sisters. Mrs. Frank Crow of Rossville, a sister of Mrs. Le White was in attendance. The news extends sympathy to the bereaved widow and relatives. Funeral Director C. C. Weber. Vernon, Washington and died on July 23, 1959 at his home near Gunder. He was the son of Russell K. and Marie (Hoyt) Leeman. He was baptized in the University Methodist Church of Los Angeles, California and was confirmed in Norway Lutheran Church of St. Olaf. He received his elementary education at Sedro Woolley, Washington. He attended high school at Lynwood, California and completed two years at Compton Junior college. In February 1943 he entered the Army Air Corps and served overseas on Iwo Jima and Saipan. He received his discharge in February, 1946. He was united in marriage to Arlene Mary Peterson of St. Olaf on November 19, 1946. To this union were born four children: Norman Robert, Janet Arlene, James Russell and Mary Kay. During the past years and at the time of his death, Mr. Leeman was farming near Gunder. He was a member of Norway Lutheran Church and had served as deacon of this congregation. He was active in American legion work and in community affairs, serving in many capacities. He had been commander, adjutant and was the present service officer of the St. Olaf post and also a past Commander of the Clayton County American Legion. He served on various district committees as well as being recently appointed to the National Rehabilitation Board of the American Legion. He was president of the St. Olaf Cooperative Telephone Company, a member of the Marion township election board and Justice of the Peace for Marion township at the time of his death. In addition to his farm work, he was an insurance agent. In addition to his parents, wife and children, he is survived by a brother, Robert of Guttenberg, a sister, Joan of Lynwood, California, four nephews, one niece and many other relatives and friends. Land Keith Harlowe, son of Joe and Vivian (Ingels) Land, was born north of Luana, Iowa on July 26, 1933, and died of injuries received in the course of military duties in Germany on May 25, 1957, at the age of 23 years, nine months and 29 days. He was educated in the Luana public schools, graduating from high school in 1953. He received his formal religious training in the Methodist Sunday School and later became an active member of the Luana Methodist Church. He was active in community life, especially in baseball. Just prior to his entrance into military service he was employed by the Luana-Monona Cooperative Creamery. On September 24, 1955, he was married to LaVonne Koehn of Monona. For the last 14 months of his life he served in the United States Army in Germany, the last two as Specialist 3rd Class. He is survived by his wife, LaVonne of Monona; by his parents of Luana; by two sisters, Rita (Mrs. Walter Hartley) of Denver, Colorado, and Dixie of Luana; by a number of more distant relatives; and a great number of friends who mourn his going. He received his education in a country school. Clarence was married to Alice Plozel on February 24, 1941 at the E.U.B. parsonage in Monona by Rev. Raduge. Clarence farmed until 1950. From 1950 to 1970 he did carpentry and painting. He enjoyed doing craft work and repairing antiques. Clarence died Thursday, August 27, 1992 at Central Community Hospital in Elkader. He was 85. Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister, Adelia Brockmeyer. Survivors include his wife, Alice; two brothers, Roscoe Larson of Elkader and Aldo Larson of Castalia; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Patrick's Catholic church in Monona, and received his education at the Beulah school. He was married to Lorraine Osmundson of Clermont, May 3, 1944, at St. Patrick's church in Monona. The couple continues to farm on the home place. His parents preceded him in death. He received his education in Marquette grade and high school and Upper Iowa University. He played semi-pro baseball for many years. He was director of Iowa Dairy Boosters for 9 years; a member of the Monona Fire Department, Monona Kiwanis Club and St. Paul Lutheran Church. On April 30, 1936 he was married to Angeline Scheffert. They had 3 children. Angeline died Nov. 13, 1960. On Sept. 7, 1968 he married Eunice Morehead Carr at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona. He was employed by Union Farmers Coop from 1937 to 1950. He managed the business during his employment. In 1950 he became a salesman for the eastern half of Iowa for Anderson Chemical Co. out of Litchford, MN. He worked for this company 30 years, retiring in 1980. Preceding him in death was his first wife, Angeline Goltz; one son, Terry, who died Oct. 5, 1984; 5 brothers, William, Louis, Edward, Herbert, Lawrence and Charles and 4 sisters, Violet Schott, Leona Helmer, Anna Royston and Mary Tapper. Surviving are his wife, Eunice; one son, Steve of Monona; one daughter, Joann Konarske of Racine, WI; one step-son, John Carr of Glendora, CA; 2 step-daughters, Cathy Bell of St. Paul, MN and Mary Totel of Decatur, IL; 8 grandchildren; 8 step-grandchildren and one sister, Winnifred Lawton of Madison, WI. Services were Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona. Pastor Harold O. Ward officiated. Burial was in Monona Cemetery, Monona, IA. Willard farmed with his brother, Arthur on the family farm west of Postville, Iowa, for sixty-eight years. He then retired to Monona, Iowa, with his brother and sister-in-law, Arthur and Alice. Willard enjoyed the outdoors, mowing lawn and spending time with his family and friends. Willard also enjoyed consulting with his nephews on the day to day operations of the farm. He had a great knowledge of farming and was known for his unwritten farmer's almanac advice. Survivors include his sister-in-law, Alice Bareis, Marquette; brother-in-law, Fred Miller, Waukon; his nieces and nephews, Mike (Kate) Trudo, McGregor, Mark Trudo, Punta Gorda, FL, Rick (Brenda) Trudo, McGregor, Ronn (Sherry) Trudo, Brownsville, MN, Dan (Maryanne) Trudo, McGregor, Mark Miller, Waukon, John (Leslie) Miller, Waukon, Joel (Shawna) Miller, Waukon; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Willard was preceded in death by his parents, John and Adelia Bareis; one brother, Arthur Bareis; one sister, Marjorie Miller and one niece, Ruth Palmer. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, February 23, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, Iowa. The Rev. Steve Brackett will officiate. Burial will follow in the Postville Cemetery, Postville, Iowa. Donna was born on September 1, 1927, on the family homestead, rural Luana, Iowa, to Henry and Mahala (Hoth) Radloff. She attended Gunder Country School through the eighth grade. Donna was united in marriage to Milton Orville Olson on January 8, 1947, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, Iowa. Seven children were born to this union. Donna and Milton farmed together for their entire married life in the Gunder, Iowa, area. They celebrated nearly sixty years of marriage together until the death of Milton, on December 27, 2006. Donna was a long-time member of the Home Garden Club, Marion Lutheran Church, and Marion WELCA and was an Avon Representative in Northeast Iowa for nearly thirty years. She will be remembered for her homemade bread, pecan caramel rolls, Christmas breakfast, fried chicken and ham balls. She will be deeply missed by her many family and friends. Warner Dead San Francisco, Jan 18 Prof. Amos Grisvold Warner, professor of Applied Economics at Leland Stanford Junior University, is dead. He was born at Elkader, Iowa, Dec. 21, 1861, and was graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1885. Three years later the degree of Ph.D. was granted to him by Johns Hopkins University. From 1887 to 1889 he was general agent of the Charity Organization Society of Baltimore. From 1889 to 1891 he was a lecturer on economics at the University of Nebraska, and in the latter year was appointed Superintendent of Charities in the District of Columbia. In 1893 he was appointed to the professorship in Leland Stanford Junior University which he held up to his death. She was baptized at the Christian Church in Wadena and has been a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Elkader for the past 21 years. On April 18, 1932, she was united in marriage with Willis Lamphier at Galena, Ill. They were married 41 years. She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Popenhagen, two sons, Leonard Popenhagen and Edward Lyman Lamphier; and three brothers, Fred, Paul and LeRoy Landis.
