The Rev. John Zerhusen officiated. Pallbearers were Stanley Glawe, Paul Moritz, Robert Nesteby, Jan Wood, Jerry Moyna, and Kenneth Anderson. Ted Glawe was born January 30, 189?, in Read Township to Theodore William and Elise Taake Glawe. He married Emma Lemke and she preceded him death in 1918. They had one son, Vernon. He married Lillian Vogt in l934 in Decorah. He was a lifetime resident of Clayton County and was educated in a rural school near his home. He retired from farming in 1948 and then moved to Elkader. He died April 24, 1979 at Central Community Hospital in Elkader after a four month illness He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church Council and was a frequent delegate to the Synod Convention. He was the caretaker of the church cemetery for several years. He survived by his wife, Lillian; one son, Vernon of Monona, two-step daughters, Mrs. Avron (Marinette) Oleson, Elkader and Mrs. Kenneth (Donna) Radloff, Farmersburg; ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sibling; his first wife, Emma; his brother, Arthur; four sisters, Mrs. John (Emelie) Wilker, Mrs. William (Minnie) Radloff, Mrs. William (Emma) Bruns and Mrs. Ben (Lucy) Palas. A sincere thank you to all who remembered us with cards, visits, flowers and prayers at the time of our loss. Thank you to the ladies who served the lunch at Zion Lutheran Church at Clayton Center, the staff of the Central Community Hospital. A special thank you to Doctors Powell and Auer. She was united in marriage to Reuben Glawe on April 4, 1934 at Elkader, Iowa. One daughter was bom to this union. They lived in the St. Olaf area all of their married life together. Reuben died on May 10,1992. Evelyn continued to live in St. Olaf until entering Central Community Hospital in Elkader, Iowa. She died there Thursday night, October 3, 1996 at the age of eighty-one. Evelyn will be remembered as one who enjoyed baking, crocheting, gardening and flowers. She is survived by her daughter JoAnn and her husband Russ Wiley of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a grandson Todd Bent of Key West, Florida: a granddaughter Tara and her husband Paul Egli of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan; three nieces and seven nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Realto, Elmer, and Alfred Gusta; and two sisters, Dina Meenan and Leona Gottschalk. She taught school in Highland and Boardman twp. schools for 10 years. On Oct. 11, 1934 she was married to Carl J.. Etteldorf at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elkader. The couple owned and operated a grocery business in Garnavillo for 10 years. In 1939 they opened a grocery business in Monona and operated that until fire destroyed the building in 1954. They went into the shoe business in Monona for 8 years. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Carl, 2 brothers, Vincent and Clement and one sister, Marie Ehrhardt. Surviving are 2 brothers, Paul Roach, Elkader; and LaVern Roach of Illinois; one sister, Ann Boland of Long Beach, CA and nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 2, 1990 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Monona at 10 a.m. Father John Moran officiating. Burial in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Elkader. He was assistant cashier at the First State Savings Bank in Waucoma for three years and Farmers State Bank in Monona for two years. He owned and operated a grocery store in Garnavillo for 10 years. He bought a building in Monona and was in the grocery business there for 15 years and owned a shoe store in Monona for eight years. Carl Etteldorf died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 1989, at the Guttenberg Care Center in Guttenberg where he resided since 1986. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Monona. Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother, Philip. Surviving is his wife, Zita; one sister, Mrs. Hugo Schupanitz of Ossian and nieces and nephews. He was 80 years old. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the home and at 2:00 o'clock in St. Paul's Lutheran church. The Rev. Frederick R. Ludwig will officiate and interment will be in Postville cemetery. Mr. Eberling was born March 29, 1867, in Hannover, Germany, as the son of Frederick L. and Louisa Meier Eberling. At the age of three years he came with his parents to the United States and the family first settled at Guttenberg, later moving to Grand Meadow township where the deceased lived until he retired from farming in September, 1928, when the family moved to their present home in Postville. On March 16, 1899, Mr. Eberling was married to Emma Harnack and to this union six children were born, Elmer of Castalia, Walter of Postville, Lucy, Mrs. Ed Kamp of Castalia, Eli of Postville, Lora, Mrs. Elery Nuehring, of Madison, Wis., and Alice, at home. In addition to his widow and children he is survived by 13 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, one brother, John Eberling of Cresco, two sisters, Mrs. Christ Harnack of Postville and Mrs. Mathilda Baethke of Cresco, as well as numerous other relatives and friends. His parents, three brothers and one sister preceded him in death. Mr. Eberling was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church of this city, having been confirmed there March 18, 1883. M. in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. The Reverend Dave L. Lenth officiated. Marian Schutte was the organist. Casket Bearers were: Martin Lee Eberling, Dr. Kaaren R. Olesen, Robert Heins, Curtis Faldet, Ron Heins, Dean Heins, Joseph Reierson, Robert Reierson, Eugene Neuhring, Karlton Eberling. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery. Esther Minnie (nee Heins) Eberling, the daughter of Louis and Louise (nee Meiske) Heins, was born July 22, 1906 in Post Township, Allamakee County, near Postville, Iowa. She passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2002 in the Good Samaritan Center at Postville, Iowa. She had reached the age of 96 years, 2 months, and 3 days. She was baptized September 8, 1906 in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville by the Rev. E. Schmidt and confirmed there on September 15, 1920 by the Rev. R. B. Garten. Esther attended the Empire School in Allamakee County. On January 14, 1932 Esther was married to Eli L. Eberling by Rev. R. B. Garten. To this union two children were born, Kathleen and Loren Lee. They farmed in Clayton County on the Eberling farm until they moved to Postville in 1965. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Eli, four brothers, Victor, Elmer, Louis (Jr.), and twin brother, Lester, one sister, Ruby Heins, and one granddaughter, Dana Eberling. Surviving are one daughter, Kathleen and her husband, Rodney Olesen, of Des Moines, IA, one son, Loren Lee Eberling and his wife, Sandra, of Postville, IA, two grandchildren, Martin Lee Eberling and his wife, Cindi, of Waseca, MN, Dr. Kaaren Rae Olesen and her husband, Dr. Jamie Bunn, of Des Moines, IA, one sister, Lillie Martens of Cedar Rapids, IA, one brother, Virgel Heins of Maynard, four great grandchildren, Hans Olesen Bunn, Martin Eberling, Jr., Samantha Eberling, McKinzie Paige Knish, two step great grandchildren, Alicia and Ricky Medina, a sister-in-law, Corrine Heins of LaCrosse, WI, and several nieces and nephews. Eli and Esther celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1982. She was a life long member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville and the Women of the ELCA.
