Burial was in the Garnavillo cemetery. She was born near Guttenberg Nov. 7, 1862, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Mueller. She was baptized at Ceres and confirmed in St. Paul’s Lutheran church, Garnavillo. Her whole life was spent in and near Garnavillo until the last year, when she lived in Elkader. On Aug. 12, 1888, she was married to George Pahlas, who died March 29, 1894, leaving her with three small children and one step-daughter, Mrs. Frank Lindroth of Luana. The children are George of Rockford, Ill., Mrs. Karl Stiehl and Julius of Elkader. Eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Dorothea Hempler of Bellevue and Mrs. Frank Turner of Los Angeles, Calif., survive. Pallbearers were six grand sons: George Jr. and Charles Pahlas, Clark Pahlas, Leo Walther, Carroll Ehrhardt, and Myron Lindroth. ~Note: Death occurred May 1949

Pahlas, 78, former Elkader resident and a Dubuque physician for more than 50 years, died Wednesday, June 26, in the home of his son Harold, in Rockford, Ill. Funeral services were held Saturday, June 28, in Dubuque and burial was at the East Side cemetery in Elkader. Dr. Pahlas was born in Elkader and received his education in the public schools here. He attended the University of Iowa, Iowa City; Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Md.; the University of Colorado, Denver, Colo.; and interned at the City and County Hospital, Denver. He practiced medicine in Dubuque for more than 50 years until he retired in November, 1962. Surviving are one son, Harold, and one daughter, Jane, both of Rockford, Ill. ~no source or dates

A. F. Volle officiating. Burial was in the Clayton Center cemetery. Pallbearers were Bob Allen, Homer Griffith, George Hochhaus, Maurice Larson, MaLloyd Mueller, and J. E. Shaffer. Lester Heinrich Karl Vogt, son of John and Minna Doerring Vogt, was born March 6, 1897, at Farmersburg and died Feb. 6 1963 at his home in Elkader of a heart attack. He was baptized July 18, 1897 at Clayton Center by the Rev. F. W. Seifert and was confirmed March 20, 1910, at Farmersburg by the Rev. Pett. Mr. Vogt received his education in the rural school and farmed until five years after his marriage in 1926 when he and Mrs. Vogt moved to Elkader, which was his home until his death. He was married to Leona Kalbaum Jan. 7, 1926 at the Peace United Church of Christ, Elkader, by the Rev. C. H. Franke. Mr. Vogt had been a member of the Peace United Church of Christ, Elkader, since his marriage. He served on the church council for four years and as treasurer for six years. He was a member of the Royal Order of Moose at Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Roy who died in childhood. He is survived by his wife; two brothers, Alvin, Elkader, and Hugo, Monona, and one sister, Mrs. Harvey (Hattie) Schultz, Postville.

He was baptized in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Garnavillo, June 26 1887 by Pastor F. Sommerlad. He attended religious school at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Garnavillo, and was confirmed there by Pastor J. Bunge March 30, 1902. Nov. 22, 1911, he was united in marriage to Seana Vogt by Pastor Wm. Braun. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to the present Lorraine Hamman farm. They continued to live there until 1946, when they moved to National. Since Nov. 3, 1979, he made his home with his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Lorraine Hamann. He entered the Hospital at Postville on May 2. His condition grew critical and he gradually grew weather and passed away Sun. night, June 30, 1968 at the age of 81 years, 2 months and 26 days. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Farmersburg, attending Bible Class and the worship services, and taking an active interest in the entire program of the church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Seana, who passed away Dec. 9, 1960, and one brother Arthur. He is survived by his 2 sons, Milton Hamann, Garnavillo, and Lorraine Hamann, Farmersburg; one brother, Hermie Hamann, Garnavillo, one sister, Mrs. Laura Schlake, Garnavillo, 4 grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held Wed., July 3, at St. John Lutheran Church, Farmersburg, at 1:30 p.m., with Rev. R. H. Steege, pastor, officiating. Music was by the Senior Choir and one song by the congregation with Mrs. R. H. Steege, organist. Burial was at the Garnavillo cemetery.

Stendel died Saturday, February 25, 1978. at Victorvllle Valley Hospital, Victorville, Calif. He had suffered a severe heart attack about two months ago. His home has been in Apple Valley, Calif., where he had been an employee of the Apple Valley Water Corporation. A son of William and Pearl Shaw Stendel, Fred was born July 29, 1918 In the Pony Hollow area of Read Township in Clayton County, Iowa. He attended the local school. On November 19, 1938 he was married to Ilene M. Radloff at Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader. A mechanic, he worked for an Implement firm in EIkader and operated a filling station in St. Olaf before moving to Apple Valley, Calif., in January 1970. Besides his wife he is survived by one son, Steven of Marion, Iowa; one grandchild, Jill; one sister, Mrs. Kenneth (Bonita) Keleher, Elkader; and his mother, Pearl Stendel, Cedar Rapids. Stendel was baptized at Peace Church in Elkader by the Rev. C. H. Franke on September 28, 1918. He was a member of VFW and Lemka-Stendel Legion Post and honored with a military funeral. Pallbearers were: Wm. Boland, Roger Keleher, James Voss, Wilfred Shaw, Paul Doeppke and Floyd Schroeder.

Seifert Oct. 8, 1893, and confirmed April 9, 1906 by the Rev. F. Linnenberger at the Zion Lutheran Church, Clayton Center, of which she was a member at the time of her death. She was married to Paul J. Haverland Feb. 8, 1912, at the Vogt home in Clayton Center. After their marriage, the Haverlands farmed in Read Township for 37 years, retiring to the present residence in Elkader, Iowa, in 1949. Mrs. Haverland was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, Mrs. George (Linda) Kelpien and Mrs. Ed (Ida) Glawe, and a half-sister, Marian Vogt.

He received his high school education and attended a year in the American Institute of Business in Des Moines. On July 29, 1931, he married Nettie V. Larson at the Norway Lutheran Church. To this union four children were born. >From 1910-1930 he worked in a garage in Luana with his brother-in-law Emil. He was manager of the St. Olaf creamery from 1930-1971 and was in the dairy industry for 41 years. He was a member of the Fire Deparment and on the Central School board in Elkader, and church board. His hobbies included fishing and hunting. On Thursday, June 21, 1984, he died at his home. Survivors include his wife Nettie, his children Rodney Myron Lindroth, Quincy, Ill., Karen Ann Engelhardt, St. Olaf, and Kenneth James Lindroth, Strawberry Point; ten grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Hall (Florence) Swenson, Postville. Preceding him in death were his parents, a daughter, Marilyn Jean Lindroth, a brother Efferd Lindroth, and a sister Irene DeSotel.

She died Sunday, July 3, 1983, at Central Community Hospital. Survivors include four cousins in Iowa: Helen Kruse and June Kelpien of Elkader, Ivadean Whitman, Marion, and LaVern Glawe, Blairsburg. Her parents preceded her in death.

He attended East School in Lyons and at age nine moved to Pleasant Valley, north of Mt. Carroll. He attended Mt. Carroll High School for three years and graduated from Dubuque Senior High School. He became a concert violinist and in 1936 opened his first music store in Elkader. In 1937, he purchased the Hoffman Music Co., Clinton, which had been established during the civil war. He also owned stores in Dubuque, Guttenberg, Maquoketa, and Savanna. He married Dorothy Yokom in August 1947 in Dubuque. She died. He married Astyre Hammer Cole Dec. 8, 1961 in Clinton. In 1952, he purchased a music store in Stirling, and operated it as Bender and Burch Music Co. In 1970 the name was changed to Bender and Block music Co., Inc. In his early years in the music business, he developed many band programs for school districts through north east Iowa, southwest Wisconsin and northern Illinois, at a time when he was the music dealer responsible for organizing school music programs. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church and had served several terms as senior warden and clerk of the Vestry at St. John's Episcopal Church. He was a member of Lyons Lodge No.93, AF-AM, Clinton Consistory, Kaaba Shrine, of the early members in Iowa of De Molay with his membership in Dubuque. He was a member of the National Association of Music Merchants and served on numerous committees. He was commissioner of Boy Scouts in the Clinton-Bellevue area for many years, and helped organize the Clinton Symphony Orchestra where he played violin for several years. He was active in the Clinton Chamber of Commerce, and was a charter member of the Clinton Horsemen's Association. Survivors include his wife; five daughters, Mrs., William (Barbara) Mendelson of San Diego, Calif., Mrs. Roy (Mary) Swayze of Eutaw, Ala., Mrs. Robert (Adele) Putman of Clinton, Mrs. Jerry (Judy) Moyna of Elkader, and Mrs. Roy (Star) Muni of Bartonville, Ill.; five sons, Lyle J., Daniel J. and Brenton D., all of Clinton, Nielsen G. of Dubuque, and Curtlin G: of Hays, Kan.; 19 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. ~Clinton (Iowa) Herold, August 11, 1981 (P. 10) ~Notes: He married Irene Mary Linderman about 1926. Mrs. Radloff was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Raymond, a granddaughter, Mrs. Arthur (Luella) Boland, three sisters, Mrs. Ed (Ina) Glawe, Mrs. George (Linda) Kelpein and Mrs. Paul (Leona) Haverland and a half-sister, Marian Vogt. Samaritan Home, Elkader, Thursday, Dec. 26, 1963. He had been in poor health for several years. Mr. Radloff received his schooling in the rural schools of Read Township. He was baptized in the Zion Lutheran Church, Clayton Center, July 23, 1885, and confirmed there April 3, 1898, by the Rev. F. W. Seifert and was a member of that church at time of his death. Mr. Radloff spent most of his life in Read Township. After his marriage to Adele Vogt, July 20, 1905, at the home of the bride in Clayton Center, they farmed in Read Township for a number of years after which Mr. Radloff worked for the Clayton County Highway Department until he became disabled and they retired to Clayton Center. Later he entered the Davis Nursing Home in Strawberry Point, and later the Samaritan Home in Elkader. Mr. Radloff was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a son, Raymond Radloff, and a granddaughter, Mrs. Luella Boland. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Annice Hulverson, Manchester; Mrs. Edmund (Ruby) Kadlec, Milwaukee, Wis., Mrs. Fred (Ilene) Stendel, St. Olaf, and six grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday, December 29, 1963, at the Zion Lutheran Church, Clayton Center, with the Rev. J. H. Zerhusen officiating. Burial was in the old Clayton Center Cemetery. Pallbearers were Roy Harnack, William Radloff, Fritz Mueller, Carl Radloff, Roy Bandow and Harold Lemke.

Mr. Radloff received his education at the Clayton Center school. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran church, Clayton Center. He was self-employed as a mechanic and welder. On Feb. 10, 1934, he was married to Helen Opitz of Strawberry Point. He is survived by his parents at Clayton Center, his wife and three daughters Joan, Mrs. John (Janann) Dawson, and Jean, all of Riverside, Calif., one grandchild, also of Riverside; three sisters, Mrs. Annice Halverson, Manchester; Mrs. Eddie (Ruby) Kadlec, Milwaukee, Wis., and Mrs. Fred (Ilene) Stendel, Elkader. L. Glawe Services for Mrs. Ed. L. Glawe were held from the Witt Funeral home in Elkader at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon. Burial was made in the East Side cemetery. The Rev. H. H. Frohn officiated. Mrs. Glawe, 63, died at her home on Friday morning, Jan. 7. She had been ill about three months. She was born Ina Ida Vogt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Vogt, Feb. 17, 1891, in Read Township. On Feb 8, 1910, she was united in marriage with Ed L. Glawe. The couple made their home on a farm until 1941, when they moved to Elkader. Besides her husband, she leaves a son, Reuben and a daughter, Mrs. Carl Meyer, both of St. Olaf. She is also survived by two brothers and four sisters. They are: Fred and Arthur Vogt of Elkader, Mrs. Ella Lahrs, Mrs. George Kelpien, Mrs. Louis Radloff and Mrs. Paul Haverland, all of Elkader. There are also two half sisters, Mrs. Theo. Interment was in the Farmersburg-Wagner Cemetery, rural Farmersburg, IA. Mardella was born on August 5, 1924, Farmersburg, Iowa, to John A. and Alice (Glawe) Kluth. She was baptized on November 7, 1924, at Zion Lutheran Church, Clayton Center, Iowa, and confirmed on July 3, 1938, at St. John Lutheran Church, Farmersburg, Iowa. Mardella attended country school in the Farmersburg - St. Olaf area and graduated from Farmersburg High School with the class of 1941. On January 17, 1949, she was united in marriage to Edward Wiedenman at St. John Lutheran Church, Farmersburg, Iowa. One son, Randall, was born to this union. Together they farmed in the Farmersburg area until retiring to Farmersburg, Iowa. Mardella was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church, St. John WELCA, and was the financial secretary for St. John Lutheran Church for many years. She enjoyed helping her husband on the farm, gardening, her flowers, birds and attending auctions. She loved her family very much and especially cooking and baking for her two grandsons. Mardella will be greatly missed by the many people who knew her. Survivors include her husband of sixty-one years, Edward Wiedenman, Farmersburg; one son, Randall (Diane) Wiedenman, Farmersburg; two grandsons, Dr. Alan Wiedenman, Brooklyn and Jeff Wiedenman, Coralville; one brother, John V.
