Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 26, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Guttenberg, with the Rev. Harold McMillin officiating. Burial will be in the Monona City Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, April 25, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Guttenberg. Mary was born on July 1, 1949, in Prairie du Chien, Wis., daughter of Floyd and Ruth (Campbell) Beneker. Mary graduated from Prairie du Chien High School in 1967, and continued her education at Western Technical College in La Crosse. She married Dale Linderbaum on Dec. 28, 1968. From this union, two daughters were born, Sarah and Jennifer. For the past 29 years, Mary worked at the Allamakee-Clayton Rural Electric Cooperative. Prior to that, she worked at the University of Wisconsin and Coe College. Mary was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved cooking, gardening, fishing, playing cards and spending time with her family and friends. Surviving are her husband, Dale; daughters, Sarah (Mark) Kilburg and Jennifer (Eric) Huinker; grandchildren, Jacob and Elizabeth Kilburg and Kaylee and Allen Huinker; a brother, Floyd (Judy) Beneker; a sister, Rita (Bill) Sturm; sister-in-law, Nancy (Doug) Drahn; mother and father-in-law, Lawrence (Evelyn) Linderbaum; and many nieces, nephews and friends. In lieu of flowers, plants, benches, statuary and all other gifts, donations may be sent to St. John's Church in Guttenberg, Heartland Hospice and the Guttenberg Ambulance Unit. Pedretti passed away at the Guttenberg Care Center Saturday, March 13, 2010. Joseph P. Pedretti, 78, of Elkader, was born August 24, 1931, in Genoa, WI to William and Agnes (Venner) Pedretti. He was raised on a dairy farm and attended country school. Joe moved to Prairie du Chein, WI to work with his brother at Prairie Maid Bakery. On April 20, 1955, Joe was united in marriage to Mary Lee Minchk and to this union seven children were born: Dennis, Gary, Jane, Steve, Sue, Cindy and Heidi. Joe had seventeen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Joe and Mary moved to Elkader and established Pedrettis Bakery in 1968. He owned and operated the family business for thirty-five years. Over the years Joe had a lot of help at the bakery from his children and grandchildren, they all enjoyed working with him. Joes hobbies included pheasant hunting with the boys, playing cards with the grandchildren, and taking his children for Sunday drives in the country. Even though baking was his life, spending time with family was very important to him. Joe is survived by his wife, Mary; children Dennis, Jane (John Reimer), Steve (Molly), Sue (Brad Breitsprecher), Cindy (Gordon Nelson), and Heidi (Kevin Schmidt); seventeen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Bernard, William, Daniel, Michael and Leo and sisters, Anna Mae, Dolores, Margaret, Joan, Mary Jane. Preceding him in death are his parents; sisters, Agnes and Clara and son Gary. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. March 17, 2010 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Elkader, Iowa with burial in the St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation was held from 4-7 p.m. and K.C. Herbert Harry Way was born March 14, 1929, in Strawberry Point to Glen and Laura (McLean) Way. He attended school in Strawberry Point, after which he worked on the farm with his brothers. He entered the U.S. Army in June of 1951, and was honorably discharged in May of 1953, serving during the Korean Conflict. Herbert moved to Elkader where he remained until entering the Living Center. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working with animals. He also worked at the Elkader Senior Dining Center for nine years. Survivors include his siblings, Irma Wilcox of Salem, OR, Mildred (Vernon) Schmock of Strawberry Point, Clair (Lois) Way of Cedar Rapids and Cal Way of Volga; numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Nettie Way in infancy, Luella Gilbert and June Thompson and brothers, Don, Dale and Doyle Way. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m., March 16, 2010 at the Leonard Funeral Home in Elkader, Iowa with burial in the Cass Township Cemetery at Strawberry Point, Iowa. Katherine Martha Horns, 56, of Des Moines was born November 26, 1953, in McGregor to William and Marianne (Ruff) Horns. She attended school in Garnavillo and Elkader, and graduated from Central Community School in 1972. After graduating as a dental assistant from Kirkwood Community College, she worked in Cedar Rapids, Monona, and Elkader before becoming a program coordinator for R.I.S.E. rehabilitation center and a member of the Elkader ambulance service. At the age of thirty, she discovered her final, perfectly suited career: nursing. In 1991, she graduated as an RN from Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. She worked in the ICU/CCU and then as a home health care nurse until being diagnosed with ovarian cancer in October 2007. Her long, courageous battle ended peacefully March 11, 2010. A farm girl turned city dweller; Kathy never lost her love of nature and was an active horseback rider and gardener. Her devotion to her family and her horse was paralleled only by her dedication to her profession and her patients. The love and care she showed for her family was reflected in her strong, supportive, and giving nature as a nurse, blessing all those lucky enough to have shared their lives with her. She is survived by her brother Ray Horns (Shirley) of Tomah, WI and her sister Linda Kasper (Norm) of Des Moines; her nieces and nephews Melissa Fettkether (Nick), Michael Horns (Amy), Michelle Kasper, Matthew Horns (Amy); her great-nieces and nephews Jaime, Jordan, Jacqueline, Jaydn, Alex, Ben, and Rebecca; and her aunt Inge Baumgartner, uncle Irving Horns (Barbara), and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents, her brother Richard Horns, her aunt and uncles Ilse Koehn, Leo Koehn, and Earl Baumgartner, and her horse Nata Moon Shadow. In her last years, she enjoyed bingo, special music and activities at the care center. Myron was born at the home farm outside Farmersburg to Elmer and Viola (Suckow) Ihde on December 23, 1922. Interment was in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Monona, with military honors. Leonard Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements. After helping on the family farm, Myron worked in Kansas and California manufacturing airplanes, including the B-25. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1943, serving in the 388th Bomb Group where he flew 31 bombing missions over Europe as tail gunner in a B-17. He was injured in battle, and returned to Monona after a long convalescence. Myron was united in marriage to Mary Louise Wagner on October 28, 1947. Three children, Dennis, Wayne and Deanna were born to this union. He worked for Drahn Implement and Luana Co-Op before becoming Postmaster in Monona from which he retired after more than twenty years of service. Myron was a long time member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, the American Legion, and St. Paul Lutheran Church. Myron designed and built his home in Monona, doing almost all of the work himself. He was always eager to learn new things and loved solving problems. He enjoyed helping to build airplanes and wood working. Myron was such an avid photographer; he even built some of his own cameras and for a while photographed weddings for Carroll Studios. Mary Lou and Myron loved to be on the go, often driving out of the way to look up old friends. Highlights of his life included a trip to Germany to visit relatives, trips to visit his children, and reunions with his crew members. Myron was also a pilot, and loved flying. He is survived by son Dennis (Jeanne) Ihde of Bailey, CO, son Wayne (Barbara) Ihde of Boulder, CO, and daughter Deanna Ihde of Newton, IA; grandchildren Joanna Ihde and James Allen (Bianka) Ihde; and great grandchildren Hope, Brandon, Stryder, Zoe and Olivia; mother-in-law Lucille Wagner; sisters-in-law Dolores Klingman and JoAnn (Lloyd) Scherf; brothers-in-law Milton (Evelyn) Ashline, Donald (Shirley) Wagner, Roger (Alice) Wagner, David (Elizabeth) Wagner and Jerome Schultz, plus numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Another tip for finding death notices. I knew the date of my great grandmother's death and searched newspapers for a write-up several times. I think it was the third time I finally found a death notice under the church news for the church she attended. So sometimes you have to look at everything to find what you are looking for.
