(Bettie) Frese, 98, of McGregor, formerly of Monona, died Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at home of natural causes. She passed away peaceful in her sleep. Abiding by her wishes, Bettie was cremated and burial of her ashes will be at a later date in Monona. Memorial Services, presided over by Pastor Alan Schulz, were held Saturday, April 10, at 4 p.m. at the First Lutheran (Swede Ridge) Church, McGregor, with a fellowship dinner afterwards. Urn Bearer was Bettie's grandson, David Redemske. "Life's Weaving" was sung by Edith Nading and "Precious Lord Take My Hand" was sung by Lois Davis and Robert Eggen. Organist was Olga Corlett. Elizabeth H. (Bettie) Frese was born Thursday, December 28, 1911 in McGregor, Iowa to Arthur J. and Hilma (Eggen) Durr. She was baptized on January 21, 1912 in the Norwegian Lutheran Church on Swede Ridge, rural McGregor. She graduated from the McGregor High School in 1929 and was employed as a switchboard operator with the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in McGregor and later with the Farmers Telephone Company in Monona. She was a charter member of the Women's Society of Christian Service in the Monona Methodist Church where she was also a member of the choir for many years. Later she was a member of the First Lutheran choir in McGregor. She married Ben Boone Frese on December 28, 1930, at Council Bluffs, Iowa. To this union two children were born, Yvonna Djene Frese and Curtis Alan Frese. Preceding her in death are her husband Ben, August 13, 1982; her father, Arthur, September 26, 1951; her mother, Hilma, July 20, 1976; three sisters: Ruth Maud (Robert) Whistler, December 21, 1979; Olive Susan (Everett) Fields and Norma Elinore (Jack) LoRang, June 21, 1993; three brothers: Morris Durr, November 20-22, 1922; Kenneth Harold (Naomi) Durr, July 22, 2009 and Everett Eugene (Dorothy) Durr, 2001. She is survived by one daughter, Yvonna Redemske, of McGregor, Iowa; one son, Curtis (Dorothy) Frese, of Seabeck, Washington; two grandsons: Paul (Cindi) Redemske and David (Cathy) Redemske and two granddaughters: Karen (Robert) Gehris and Cheryl (John) Foertsch; four great grandchildren: Beth Gehris, Luke (Lindsey) Gehris, Josh (Morgon) Gehris and Gena Horne; and many relatives and friends. She was a special lady and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. God looked around his garden, and he found an empty space. He then looked down upon the earth, and saw your tired face. God's garden must be beautiful, for He only takes the best. He knew that you were weary, and He knew that you were in pain, He knew that you would never be well on earth again. He saw the roads were getting rough, and the hills were hard to climb, So He closed your eyelids, and whispered "Peace be thine". It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn't go alone, For part of us went with you, the day God called you home.
