    3. Reply to Bill Meyer posting dtd 12/6/2005: I have some info about a Fred Mueller in Clayton Co. He is mentioned in the obit of our ancestor. Apparently the Devlin property (160 acres, Section 33, clayton Co) was sold to a Fred Mueller about 1892. If you are interested, I will send you the entire obit. 2. Remy James-cjr020
    3. Jerrian, Lucy was my 3rd Great Aunt from her Schrunk marriage, and could possibly connect into my Hammond line also. The mother of Lucy's husband, Thomas F. Schrunk, was Josephine Hammond. I've been trying to find a connection between Josephine and Lucy but can find very little information regarding their births or their parents. I have Lucy's obit (shown below), and I think I may have a copy of the register entry for her death in Clayton county (I'll check my files and send you that later). I'd be interested in knowing the source for Lucy being born in Hamburg. Best wishes, Jim Remy +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Thursday, 2 November 1911, Guttenberg Press, Osterdock, p4, c3 and 4: Lucy Schrunk, whose maiden name was Hammond [Hamann, Hamman], was born in Germany March 12, 1847. When she was five years of age, her parents came to America. On the way over the mother was taken sick and died soon after landing in New York in May 1853. The father and children located near Garnavillo, Iowa, where Lucy grew to womanhood. She was married to Thomas F. Schrunk Oct. 10, 1868. They began married life on the farm near Osterdock, improved it and built themselves a home and an honorable name. They are the parents of nine children. The [c4] first two born died in infancy. Two sons and five daughters along with their father and eighteen grand children survive to mourn the heavy loss of a beloved, devoted wife and mother and the community a sociable neighbor, a kind friend and a true Christian. Lucy Schrunk united with the reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on June 11, 1893, and she has lived a faithful life as a child of God. She died in the triumph of faith at 5 p. m., Oct. 24, 1911, aged 64 years, 7 months and 12 days. Funeral services were held at Bethel Church near Osterdock, at 10 a. m., Oct. 17, 1911, Elder James McKiernan, of Farmington, Iowa, in charge. Interment in the Bethel cemetery. M. Roberts died at his home in Hardin, Tuesday morning, June 30th, 1908, at 4:30 o’clock, of paralysis. Born in Dasistown, Green co., Penn., January 28th, 1831, his age was 77 years 5 months and 2 days. Obituary next week. ________________________________________________ Monona Leader – July 9, 1908 WILLIAM ROBERTS A prominent Clayton County pioneer passed peacefully away at his home June 30, 1908, of paralysis. The deceased was born in Daristown, Green County, Penn., Jan. 28, 1831, age 77 years, 5 months, and 2 days. He was born of Welch and Irish parents, David and Mary Roberts. In 1852 he was married to Elizabeth Herod. To them were born four children, one son and three daughters, Walter W., Mary M., Artelisa J. and Hanna Isabelle. He came to Iowa and settled on what is known now as the W. Warner farm, a little later the family home was established on what is known as the Buttolph place, where be lived for 22 years, on Feb. 21, 1881 the youngest daughter, Hanna Isabell and on Aug. 29th, of the same year, the oldest daughter, Mary M. Van Anchen passed away, since that time death has not invaded the family circle until the head of the family was taken on the early morning of June 30th, 1908. His sickness was protracted through about four years of more or less pain, and at times of intense suffering the iron constitution and tenacity to life inherited from his parents, sustained him when many another would have fallen, he bore it all with little complaint. He seemed to have a message which he carried in his heart through all the years and which he was unwilling should die within him, so about twenty four hours before he passed away he told his son W. M. Roberts that when he left his parents for Iowa, he promised them that he would meet them in Heaven and now he was ready to die, those nearest to him noted the change that came over him as he passed peacefully away. The body will rest in the Luana cemetery. Those who especially mourn in their bereavement are his wife, Elizabeth Roberts, one son, W. Roberts of Waterloo, Iowa, one daughter Artelisa J. Russell of Hardin, Iowa, one brother and one sister of Green county, Pa., three grandchildren, Will J. Roberts of Boise, Idaho, Mrs. May Vaughan of Hardin, Iowa, Elba J. Roberts, of Waterloo, Iowa; two great grandchildren, Iva and Jessie Vaughan of Hardin, Iowa. After a brief service in the home the funeral was conducted in the Hardin M.E. Church by the Pastor, Geo. B. Crinklaw. The choir led by Coral Pearson, rendered appropriate hymns, and beautiful floral decorations were provided, all of which helped to comfort those who mourn their loss. *************************************************************************** This is an automatically-generated notice. R. Park Anderson officiating. Those who bore the casket were Miles Alderson, Clare Coonfare, Gregor Debes, Otto Evers, Chas Hubbard and Ray Hughes. Dr. R.W. Dutton was the soloist. Interment was in the Ross Cemetery Rev. Anderson read the following obituary at the funeral. Elnora Jane Randall was born on a farm about two miles west of this residence on March 16, 1867, the daughter of a pioneer schoolteacher, Aaron B. Marshall and his wife Sarah Jane Fincher. The family was of Pennsylvania Dutch origin and migrated to Iowa from Pennsylvania in the sixties. She was a member of a family of eight, all of whom have preceded her in death. The family later moved to Osborne, Iowa, where Elnora grew to womanhood, receiving her education in the local schools. Because of her love for home and community, an outstanding characteristic of her, she let pass on opportunity to complete her education in high schools of learning in Wisconsin. Sometime later the family returned to this valley and purchased the farm now owned by Julius Wenzel. Here she met the neighbor boy who was to become her husband and on July 11, 1883 she was united in marriage with George Alva Randall at Elkader, Iowa This young farmer had built a new home for his bride at this very location, and for the past 64 years that she lived here, seldom has she stayed away from this home, even for a few days. Eight children came to bless this happy union: Belva, now Mrs. Joe Elkins of Manchester, Floyd, who passed away in 1909, Aaron of Holy Cross, Emmett of Aurora, Milo passed away at the age of 21 months in 1894; Pansy, now Mrs. Ray Schmidt of Strawberry Point, and Myrtle and Marshall at home. In the year 1912, a haying accident claimed the life of the beloved husband and father, leaving to the mother the entire responsibility of caring for the home and family, the youngest member then only three years old. *************************************************************************** This is an automatically-generated notice. He was always looking on Simeon of the Old. From the lips of this departed borther fell so often the confession, the hymn of praise of Simeon. "Lord, now letteth Thou Thy servant depart in peace, according to Thy word, For mine eyes have seen Thy salvation, which Thou hast prepared before the face of all people. A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of Thy people of Israel." It was John Breitsprecher. John Frederick William Breitsprecher was born in Priemen, Pommerania Germany, on April 12th, 1844. At the age of fourteen years the deceased brother stood before the confirmation altar. Many years he worked hard for his aged parents to make their many burdens of their age light. He was undoubtedly an obedient son of his dear parents. In 1871 the departed brother came to this country of his choice. He married Frederika Breitsprecher, nee Radloff. This union was blessed with seven children. Five preceeded the parents in death. In 1894 he moved on a farm in Floyd county, Iowa, but in 1896 he returned again to his favorite place, Clayton Center. His wife died October 18, 1919. His brother Fred's mortal remains were buried last year nearly at the same time. Our departed brother leaves to mourn his two beloved sons, Fred Breitsprecher of Chicago, Ill., and Albert at Clayton Center, his brother Henry Breitsprecher Sr., Clayton Center and six grandchildren, many relatives good friends.
