Simcox 1861-1949 <http://iagenweb.org/boards/clayton/obituaries/index.cgi?rev=133304> AUTHOR: Charlene Barnha DATE: 11/2/2006 at 14:07:36 Surnames: SIMCOX,BENSON,FORD,PAUL,PETERSON,SCHROEDER,MOSES,GLADE,ABBAS,WILLIAMS Final Rites For Mrs. W. Simcox Held Tuesday The many friends of Mrs. William Simcox were saddened to learn of the sudden death which occurred on Friday evening, July 1, 1949 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ed Ford. About three weeks ago Mr. and Mrs. Simcox came to the Ford home on a visit. Shortly after their arrival Mr. Simcox whose health has been poor for some time had to be taken to the Hampton hospital, where he is at the present time. The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon at the Halvorson Funeral Home. Rev. R. A. Brough having charge of the service. Mrs. Constance Paul and Miss Suanne Peterson accompanied by Mrs. Letha Peterson sang "Rock of Ages" and "Sweet By and By". The pallbearers were Herman Schroeder, Lawrence Moses, William Schroder, John Glade, John Abbas and Roy Williams. Interment was made in the Garner cemetery. Carrie A. Benson, daughter of Elisha and Henrietta Benson was born at Farmersburg, Iowa, December 4, 1861. She was educated and grew to womanhood in Farmersburg. On November 17, 1885 she was united in marriage to William H. Simcox at Farmersburg. She and Mr. Simcox lived in Iowa during all their married life of sixty-three and one-half years, living in Charles City, Nashua, Waukon, Garner and Audubon, at the latter place since 1914. Mrs. Simcox had two brother and four sisters all of who including a twin sister preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, a son, Mr. Glenn Simcox of Arlington, Virginia, a daughter, Mrs. Ed Ford of Dows; two grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Mrs. Simcox was a remarkable woman in many ways. She had a lovely personality, a cultured mind and deep religious nature. Her life was devoted to her church, her home and family and her friends. She was a faithful member of the Methodist church at Audubon, with which she was affiliated during her entire residence at that place. She was deeply interested and active in every good cause for human betterment. The message that summoned her to a higher world came without apparent warning but it came to one whose whole life was a preparation for that event. While seated at the supper table at the home of her daughter on last Friday evening her soul passed peacefully into the life beyond. Passing on in the evening of life and at the close of a day suggests those beautiful last two verses of Tennyson's "Crossing the Bar". Twilight and evening bell, And after that the dark! And may there be no sadness of farewell When I embark; For though from out our bourne of time and place The flood may bear me far, I hope to see my Pilot face to face When I have cros't the bar.

    1. [IACLAYTO] missing North Iowa Times issues
    2. Clayton co. IAGenWeb
    3. Hi Clayton co. Listers, I'm hoping someone out there will be able to help find the missing issues of the North Iowa Times, published in McGregor, Clayton co. Below is an email from the McGregor library director, Michelle Pettit, that details the search. Should you have ANY information, or even a clue, please contact me privately [email protected] and I will pass the information on to Michelle. Thanks, Sharyl Ferrall http://iagenweb.org/clayton Michelle's email............. This letter was sent to the McGregor Historical Society and Courier Press: I recently contacted the State Historical Society of Iowa as I began a search for missing issues of the North Iowa Times. As you know, the McGregor Library has microfilm copies of the North Iowa Times going back to the first issues of 1856 to the present time. These microfilms are invaluable for documentation of McGregor’s history. Over the past year we have had newspaper reporters looking for information as well as representatives of KWWL Our Town series, a man writing a book about the Ringlings, and an average of four genealogical requests each week from all over the country. I am proud when our library finds answers for these requests. There are two large gaps, however, in what we can provide. Microfilm issues are missing from January 1889-June 1897, and January, 1911-April, 1913. I wrote to Shari Stelling at the State Historical Society in order to try to fill these gaps of information. Her answer was, “The list of the newspapers from McGregor that you’re looking for corresponds with those newspapers that are unavailable anywhere as far as we know…We do not have them here at the State Historical Society of Iowa and A Bibliography of Iowa Newspapers shows that there isn’t anyone holding these titles and dates either…It is always disappointing when issues you want don’t seem to have survived the ages.” Shari asked me if I knew if there were any newspaper copies in existence. I knew of only two possibilities. Perhaps the McGregor Museum had newspapers for these dates, or perhaps the North Iowa Times newspaper did. This is why I am contacting your organization, as well as the owners of the North Iowa Times. If you know of the existence of these missing issues, please let me know. If these newspapers are not found these pieces of history will be lost forever. I sincerely hope these newspapers exist. I would also like to know if they do not exist. I will exhaust the avenues I know of in finding this out, and I hope you can help me. Thank you for your time and consideration. Michele Pettit, Library Director
