Emerson, b. 1889 in Fargo, ND, but I believe his family may have originated in Clayton County, IA. I have found through census data in IA other links in the family but can find very little on Clarence. I know we are related to the Peter and Batha Larson family. I don't know why he was born in ND, if the family was in IA. I do remember my mother mentioning a possible ancestor by the name of Gronhoud, but I don't know how to spell it. I would love any help in trying to piece together the puzzle, since my mother passed away years ago I have no one living to ask questions of. Thanks so much! Please let me know if you have any questions.

I'm wondering if anyone has additional info. on the tornado that caused the damage shown in this photo: http://www.rootsweb.com/~iaclayto/album/tornado_1918.htm and am hoping someone locally can check the microfilmed newspapers from Clayton co. Certainly a local paper published some sort of report on damage, who died, etc. The storm may have occurred May 21, 1918 and traveled across the Mississippi into Wisconsin. 3. http://public.fotki.com/iowaz/clayton-county-iowa/\ Clayton Co, Iowa, map pics from Andrea's 1875 Atlas and the 1886 Atlas/Plat are in this folder for use. Clicking on a thumb will open a med. size pic. Clicking on the link, 'original uploaded...' will open a pic/map large enough to read. File names may describe a photo or the start of a photo series. A high speed connection should be able to browse the map/pic series to locate items of interest. Slower dial up modems probably will not function. DO NOT buy pics from Fotki unless that is your best option, as you can download what you need to your harddrive. Some folders/albums may be locked with a password on a 'need to use' basis, but for now most albums are open so the information can be freely shared.

A memorial service will be held in her honor at the Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader on Sunday, November 5, at 1:30 p.m. A reception will be held in the church basement immediately afterwards until 3:30 p.m. Memorials will go to the Elkader Historical Society Endowment Fund. Mrs. Ehrhardt was born on April 24, 1908, in Milford, Iowa, daughter of John S. Winton and Jane Woods Winton and was raised there. She followed her sister, Eleanor Winton Gilje, as an early female graduate of the Iowa State University in Ames and later to Elkader. After several years as a high school teacher, she was united in marriage on May 27, 1938, to Leroy J. Ehrhardt who preceded her in death by exactly four years. She lived in Elkader for 67 years until moving to Iowa City recently to be closer to her family. Mrs. Ehrhardt took an active part in various church activities and manifested a keen interest in community affairs. She was a quietly effective leader in her organizations. Collecting antiques and preserving Elkader's history was a passion for her. She was a co-founder and benefactor of the Elkader Historical Society and worked for the placement of historic Elkader buildings on the National Register of Historic Places. Mrs. Ehrhardt is survived by three loving sons, Charles and wife Judy of Tallahassee, Florida, James and wife Pamela of Iowa City, and Louis of Scottsdale, Arizona. She delighted in her five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Words originally written for her grandmother are appropriate. "No one who knew her will forget her, and to each one her memory is something dear and lovely: an influence toward making them more kindly and helpful, more faithful and true, She is gone from among us, but she has left us new ideas, new inspirations; she will live in our hearts and our lives." Leonard Funeral Home, Elkader is in charge of arrangements. Claton County Register, November 8, 2006
