Mrs. Mohning was born in Germany, her maiden name being Maria Pepmeyer. She was united in marriage in 1850 to Herman Mohning, who survives her. In 1852 she and her husband came to the United States and settled in Clayton county, where they resided until seven years ago when they came to Plymouth county and made their home with their sons. Mr. and Mrs. Mohning celebrated their golden wedding on the fourth of this month and all their children and a number of relatives were present on the occasion. Mrs. Mohning was held in high esteem by all who knew her. She leaves a husband and seven children. They are Henry and John Mohning, Mrs. Louis Harnack, Mrs. L.H. Schulte and Mrs.[Henry] Fromme of this county and Fred Mohning and Mrs. Heddleman [Hedemann], of Clayton county. All the family were present at her deathbed. The funeral was held on Monday at the German Lutheran Evangelical church, Rev. Hoeppner officiating and was very largely attended. [Maria (Pepmeyer) Mohning was born 18 Nov 1827, died 11 May 1900 and is buried in the Remsen City Cemetery, Remsen, Plymouth County, Iowa.]

She also loved spending time with her family and friends. Survivors include two sons, Dale R. Troester and Donald W. Troester of Marion; two sisters, Idella Landt of Monona and Patricia Looby of Marion; one sister-in-law, Vera Utterback of Bartlett, IL; and several nieces and nephews. R. H. Steege officiating. The body lay in state at the church from 1 o'clock until the time of the services. Burial was in the Lutheran cemetery at Monona. Mr. Wagner had been under a doctor's care for some time and had been in failing health since February. He suffered a stroke Sunday, May 16, while visiting at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Roy Klingman, at Volga, and was taken to the Elkader hospital where he died Wednesday noon, May 19, 1965. He was born the son of Adam and Christina, nee Leupold, Wagner, Dec. 20, 1904, in Weissenstadt, Germany, where he was baptized and attended both public and religious school. He became a communicant member of the Lutheran church through confirmation, April 17, 1918. He came to the United States in Dec. 1924, and came directly to the Monona community where he worked as a farm hand. On July 14, 1927, he was married to Lucille Bruns at Guttenberg and the couple moved to Giard where Mr. Wagner helped his father-in-law in a saw mill. Later they moved to Farmersburg where he was employed in a cheese factory and as Janitor of the Farmersburg Public school. Since 1948 he has worked as a brick layer and mason, belonging to the Bricklayers Local No. 1 at LaCrosse, Wis. Preceding him in death were his parents; two children, Karl and Jean, who died in infancy, and one grandchild. Surviving are his wife; three sons, Roger of Dubuque, Donald of Farmersburg, and David at home; four daughters, Mrs. Lee Roy (Delores) Klingman of Volga, Mrs. Lloyd (JoAnn) Scherf of St. Olaf, Mrs. Jerome (Elaine) Schultz of Luana, and Mrs. Myron (Mary Lou) Ihde of Monona; one brother Karl of Germany; one niece in Germany, and 15 grandchildren. Music at the services was provided by the church choir. Mrs. R. H. Steege was the organist. Mrs. Glen Walters and Alice Reardon were flower girls. Preceding in death were her parents: her husband, Joseph, on October 14, 1959; 2 brothers, Ben and Al and 2 sisters, Mrs. George (Effie) Henkes, Mrs. Thomas (Lottie) Cormick. On April 17, 1949 Eugene was married to Luetta Mittelsted in St. Peter Lutheran Church at Eldorado, Iowa. To this union three children were born. Eugene lived his entire life on a farm three miles south of Castalia. He was active in the community and served on the Castalia Fire Department, the Lutheran Church Council and was a member of the Postville bowling league. Eugene enjoyed farming, which enabled him to observe the beauty of nature. He also liked to hunt and fish. He became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in Postville in April of 2003. He is survived by his wife, Luetta, a son, Doyle and wife, Bonnie Schroeder, Castalia, Iowa, Eunice and husband, Ray Paul, Fayette, Iowa, and Lori Schroeder of North Liberty, Iowa. R. H. Steege officiating. Burial was in the Farmersburg and Wagner cemetery. Mr. Walter was taken to a Prairie du Chien hospital early Monday morning, Oct. 7. Last week for several days it seemed as if he was on the road to recovery. Toward the end of the week, however, his condition took a turn for the worse and he died Sunday morning, Oct. 20, at about 11 o'clock. He was born a son of William and Sophie, nee Buckman, Walter in Wagner township, Oct. 24, 1902. He was baptized in Monona, July 14, 1903. He received his education in the Wagner township schools. He attended religious school at St. John Lutheran church in Farmersburg and was confirmed by Rev. Fred G. Braun, April 16, 1916. He was married to Emma Huckstadt, Feb. 15, 1926, at St. John Lutheran parsonage in Farmersburg by Rev. M. Peper. For 12 years they farmed on the George Walter farm, after which they moved to the present Glen Walter farm. They continued to live there until 1959 when they moved to their home in Farmersburg. He was an active member of St. John Lutheran church. He served on the church council for several terms. He also served on other committees at various times. He was a member of the Brotherhood until it disbanded. He was always ready to do his part in any project of church or community. Preceding him in death were his parents. Surviving are his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Dwane (Joan) Hoth of Elkader; a son, James of Luana; two sisters, Mrs. John (Louise) Rugland of Elkader and Mrs. Ray (Ethel) Leete of Volga; one brother, Karl of Decorah and three grandchildren. Music at the services was provided by a quartet composed of Mrs. John Bissell, Mrs. William Readon, Jr., Mrs. Reuben Mueller, and Mrs. Orval Mueller, Mrs. R. H. Steege was the organist.
