Lutz (Handke), 65, of Hazleton, died June 10 at University Hospitals in Iowa City, IA. Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 12, 1 p.m. at Zion American Lutheran Church. Rev. Phyllis Wolkenhauer and Rev. LaVerne Streich officiated. Interment was in the East Side Cemetery, Elkader. Hintz-Geilenfeld Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Marian L. Lutz, daughter of Carlaus Meyer and Amanda Schultz Meyer was born Dec. 18, 1925 at Postville. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Larry Handke and second husband, Lester Lutz; 1 brother, Merl and both parents. Surviving are a son, Richard Handke, Oelwein; 3 daughters, Carla (Mrs. John) VandeVorde, Stanley, IA, Mary Handke, Mason City and Dawn Handke, Hazleton; 7 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter. Loren Vinton Leas, was born February 21, 1927 at London, Minnesota. He was baptized in the Rossville Presbyterian Church and later confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church, Luana. The Rev. Emil Reinking officiated. He graduated from Luana Consolidated high school in 1944. Shortly following graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy for a period of two years. Upon being honorably discharged he returned to his home town area and worked for H. Leslie Leas construction. He was united in marriage to Donna Mae Krambeer, January 11, 1948 at the St. John Lutheran Church, Luana. They became parents of three children. They resided in Luana and in 1949 he started a contracting business which later became the Loren V. Leas Construction, Inc. He was a member of the Lutheran Brotherhood, Luana City Council, Fire Department, American Legion and Amvets, the American General Contractors Association of Iowa, the Elks Lodge, Decorah. In 1962 he was afflicted with Multiple Sclerosis and in 1966 was forced into retirement due to ill health. Survivors include his wife Donna; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Linda) VanWey of Marion; two sons: Jerry, serving in the Army at Wurzburg, Germany and Steven at home; one granddaughter, Brenda VanWey; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Vinton Leas, Rossville; a brother LeRoy of Sells, Arizona; two sisters, Mrs. Cornelius (Eden) Olloff, Freeport, Illinois; Mrs. Lowell (Joyce) Siegele, McGregor and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Interment was in the Luana Lutheran Cemetery with military services at graveside. Postville, Iowa newspaper of the time clipping, hand dated 1974 from my mother's obituary collection. Genevieve Maud Lybbert was born July 21, 1891, at Monona, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Arthur. She received her teacher's certificate from Valders Normal School in Decorah and taught at Luana Consolidated School and the Vernon Springs township school near Cresco. She married Edward Lybbert in 1913. They farmed west of Cresco until 1943 when they moved into Cresco. She was devoted to her church and served it in many capacities. She was a member of the Howard County Board of Education for many years; active in the Republican party, having served as chairman for several years; an active member of Twentieth Century Club, Garden Club and the historical society. Genevieve was also a founding member of the board of directors of Evans Memorial Home. Her flower gardens at the home, as well as her home, have been enjoyed by many. In her later years she started writing poetry and received recognitions and awards from various organizations. Some of her poems have been published and many appeared in the bulletins of her church. At the time of her death she had just completed arrangements for publication of a book of her poems. She is survived by her husband, Edward, who resides at Evans Memorial Home; seven children, 18 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; and a brother, Lloyd Bacon of Monona. She was preceded in death by a daughter. Postville, Iowa newspaper of the time clipping, hand dated 1978, from my mother's obituary collection. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 29, at Zion Lutheran Church, Castalia. The Rev. H. W. Wolfgram officiated with burial in the Postville Cemetery. Pallbearers were Virgil Martins, Don Sowers, Gerald Schrandt, William Szabo, Robert Szabo, Robert Schroeder, Harvey Reinhardt, Dennis Schwinefus, Loren Koenig, Wayne Timmerman, Stan Ewing, Gerald Hager, George Wander and Arthur Linderbaum. Aldo M. Larson, son of Martin C. and Louena (Peterson) Larson, was born May 27, 1918, in Clayton County, near Elkader. He was baptized into the Lutheran faith and confirmed in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona by the Rev. Veith. He attended the rural school near his home. On November 9, 1939, he was married to Arlene Anna Koenig in the Zion Lutheran Church at Castalia by the Rev. William Striepe. The couple farmed in the Gunder and Postville areas, moving to their present home near Castalia in 1947. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Castalia, and served three terms on the council as well as serving as church treasurer. He spent a great deal of time on projects including painting the church and refinishing the woodwork in the parsonage. Survivors include his wife, Arlene of Castalia; a brother, Rosco Larson, of Guttenberg; two nephews, Don Stadtmiller and Gene Stadtmiller; two great-nieces, Sheila Stadtmiller and Senta (Mrs. Christopher) Andre; one great-nephew, Paul Stadtmiller and one great-great-nephew, Charles Strong. He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Joseph and Clarence; and a sister, Adelia (Mrs. Elmer) Brockmeyer. When cooked, season with 1/2 tsp salt, a little pepper and 1 tsp chopped parsley. Butter a baking dish. Layer sauce, layer Larkin Cove Oysters. Sprinkle with salt and pepper, add more sauce and so on, until all used. Cover with bread-crumbs or Larkin Cracker meal. Dot thickly with butter and bake in a quick oven twenty-five minutes. 4 tbsp grated cheese added to the sauce improves the flavor for some people. Mrs. J.A.
