Although there are a lot of STOCKS on this web site I couldn't find here or anywhere else any info on Rosa. I did notice a few other children of the STOCKS. I will also send you a separate email with an attachment of the WPA Transcriptions of Cemeteries in which there are two Thomas Stocks. One in Greenwood as you mention with no dates but also one in Cedar View with b. date very close to your Thomas. Also that one refers to a Nashua Post article. Best of luck in your search. My g-g-g-grandmother, Martha Gration Stocks (b. abt 1808 in Derbyshire, England), apparently died 2 Sep 1965, possibly in Washington Township (per a family record). I have been unable to turn up either a cemetery record or an obituary for Martha. (I have searched a microfilm of county cemetery records, and county death records.) Can anyone help? On 29 Oct 1966 her widower, Thomas Stocks (b. 1803 in Derbyshire, England), married a much younger woman, Deborah Scott (b. abt 1828-1830 in Pennsylvania). Deborah was possibly a widow. Rosa Stocks, age 7, appears in the 1870 census with Thomas and Deborah (Chickasaw township). Rosa could have been Deborah's daughter from a previous marriage, since Martha would have been abt 55 in 1863. I can find no trace of Rosa in the 1880 census. At that time Thomas, Deborah and several other family members lived in East Waterloo in Black Hawk County. Thomas died in 1883 and was buried in the Greenwood Cemetery (I think it's him - there are no dates), but neither Deborah nor Martha seem to be buried there with him. I haven't found Rosa in any death record either. Hoping someone can help! I know quite a bit about some of the Stone, Stocks, Whitbeck and Loveless families of Chickasaw County, and I am glad to help other researchers if possible.

If it's not too much bother, could I ask for more help, please? I've lost all but one of Kate's grown children and am hoping some might be in the cemetery indexes to which you have access. The four are: 1. Guy Harrison Johnston, b 1887, last found on 1930 census in New Hampton, was a batchelor, died prior to 1965. 2. George William Johnston, b 1890, last found on 1930 census in Jefferson, Fayette Co, with his wife Ada, he died prior to 1965. 3. Clarence Alonzo Johnston, b 1895, last found on 1920 census in New Hampton, alive and living in IA in 1965. 4. Harriet nee Johnston Schultz, b 1892, last found on 1920 census with husband Walter W. in Jacksonville, alive and living in IA in 1965. That's it. The 1965 business comes from the obit of the one sister who remained in CA. The obit didn't mention in which town the surviving two siblings lived, unfortunately. Any help and suggestions are most welcome.

Judy, I couldn't discern from your post whether you already have census information for this family. I found them in LUCAS county rather than CHICKASAW county. In 1930 Herman F. (age 40, Manager of Lucas [County? Farm? ??] ) is living with wife Cassandra J. (age 44), son Charles M. (age 9) and daughter Margaret E. (age 5). Source: 1930 U.S. Federal Census > Iowa > Lucas > Chariton > District 5. (Herman and Cassandra are together in 1920 census, too, at which time he is listed as a County Agent.) Clarence E. McCullough (age 14) is living in Union, Lucas County, IA, with his grandmother Sophia George and uncle Russell George.
