I received an IACHICKA at 0100 on 28th and I just received this one. I have been getting all my rootsweb listings, although they are few and small most likely due to holidays. Also, you are subscribed to IACHICKA-D which means the messages only go out every 18 hours (if any messages are in it) (I've reset that to every 12 hours) or if the digest file reaches 20KB. IACHICKA is rather small so you might want to consider deleting from the IACHICKA-D listing and subscribe to the IACHICKA-L listing. List managers have the ability to set the -D timing up to 72 hours or 40KB so you might want to consider changing your others to -L * IF*- they are small like IACHICKA. The Ida Fitzsimmons you found is, no doubt, my grandfather's sister, and the daughter of Eliza Boughen Fitzsimmons. She taught in a Chickasaw County rural school for a year, and then taught 1st grade in Lawler for 11 years. She went to Marshalltown after her mother's death and taught first grade there in Anson school from 1904 and First Ward school from 1907 until 1913. Then she moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, probably to be near her sister Georgena who had moved there with her railroader husband, George Usher. Ida eventually became assistant superintendent of the Ogden, Utah schools. She died February 20, 1935 and is buried in Mount Calvary Catholic cemetery in Salt Lake City.

It can't hurt. Rebecca

Go to this site: http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/howto/w2w/iowa.htm While you're at it, since you have some idea of Rosetta & Albert's marriage date, you might send for a marriage record, too. These often state the names of the couple's parents. Do you have any idea when and where Rosetta died?

You have a lot more experience than I do at this. I didn't even know that there was an iowa state census on ancestry.com, which I have a subscription to. I did a search on Rosetta's husband Albert Huesselman and found him with his parents in Mithcell Co, Iowa in 1895...I didn't know who his parents were either. I'm very excited right now. The Woods family you found could definitely be Rosa and her parents/siblings. It is the exact age for her (age 12 in 1895). When I calculate the father age in 1895 I get that he was born about 1845. The tombstone sais 1827 birth...possibly Rosetta's grandfather maybe or an uncle. How do I know for sure that this is her family? The woods name is so common. With Huesselman, I'm pretty sure I found the right family because I have a brother for Albert and they are both there with the correct ages. For Rosetta...I'm not as convinced...should I try sending for a birth certificate for Rosetta? Rebecca

I only have census records on Rosetta as a married woman...and now the one you have found in Floyd Co. in 1900 when she was single. Here's what I know about Rosetta May Woods: Born: May 1883 in Iowa Married: Albert Frederick Huesselman on 19 May 1904 in Osage, Mitchell, Iowa. 1900 Census: Riverton, Floyd, Iowa; name: Rosetta Wood; age: 17; birthplace: Iowa; both parents born in Iowa. 1910 Census: Osage, Mitchell, Iowa; name: Rosetta Huesselman; born in Iowa; age: 26; both parents born in Iowa. 1920 Census: Cedar Falls, Black Hawk, Iowa; name: Rosetta Huesselman; born in Iowa; age: 35: father's birthplace looks like: "W.O." - very difficult to read; mother's birthplace: Iowa. 1930 Census: Cedar Falls, Black Hawk, Iowa; name: Rosetta Hasselman; born in Iowa; age: 46; age 21 at first marriage; both parents born in Iowa. I only know her last name as Woods because my husband's grandmother told us this information...actually she said her name was "Rosa Woods". Then in the Nashua Reporter on ancestry.com from 1924 I found her marriage date listed as 19 Sep 1904 in Osage, Mitchell, Iowa. That was neat to find a newspaper article with something pertaining to our family in it. Her full name: Rosetta May Woods was given in that article. That's all I know. I don't have any info about any siblings either. Thanks for all the help...you are an angel. Rebecca

Don't ever let age/date in an index make you hesitate to check the original record. Handwriting, transcription and indexing errors abound everywhere. Besides, you never know about the accuracy of the information given to the enumerator, as it might have been provided by a neighbor or a family member who didn't know any better. "There must be some sort of story behind her not being with her parents at age 17." This wasn't particularly unusual. "... her parents must be somewhere nearby if they are still alive in 1900." Post their names and whatever you know about their birth year/place, marriage date, previous census info. I'll take a look at my resources. Thanks so much again! Do you have any suggestions on finding her parents?
