    1. [IACHICKA-L] Haus Family
    2. Bailey, Donna
    3. Good Morning Everyone! I am searching for informtion regarding the Haus family. I have found several families with this surname in the Lawler, Chickasaw area, but as of yet I have unable to make a solid connection. My grandpa, Paul Haus was born in Germany in 1887, the son of Henry Haus and Bertha ?. I know that there were 6 children in this family - the two names that I have are Anna R. and and Martha B. (From the 1910 Fed. Pop. Schedule. In 1910, Bertha was a widow. Paul came to WI with his wife Florence ? in about 1928, withher children , Odessa and Margaret. The children by Paul and Florence seemed to straggle in during the next coming years. I think my dad said that they were very poor and may have been in an orphange or poorhouse. Thank you for any information on my family.

I think this was at Nashville or Chattanooga, Tenn. He joined the army of Gen. Wm. T. Sherman, about the time, I think, that Atlanta was reached. Under the leadership of that great general he made the famous 'March to the Sea' and continued the march northward until Charleston fell and the army of Gen. Joseph E. He participated in the grand review of the Union armies held in Washington soon after the close of hostilities, and was mustered out of service and returned home that summer."

    2. Janette Hendricks
    3. Greetings Everyone, Those of you who are subscribers to other Lists have probably heard of "Roll Calls". Generally, most Roll Calls usually deal with posting the surnames you are researching, pertinent to the List you are on. This is a variation on that theme. I am initiating a Roll Call of Civil War Veterans. Please follow the format of requested data fields shown below. (I will post my own examples in separate posts to the List.) Also, if you are lucky enough to have more than one Civil War Veteran, feel free to post each one, either in separate messages or in the same post. Please just follow the format, so there is consistency in how we present our information. Please post your Civil War Veteran(s) to the List, using the following format: 1. Full Name 2. Date of Birth 3. Place of Birth 4. Name of Spouse (including maiden, if you have it) 5. Date of Death 6. Place of Death 7. Cemetery & Location of Burial 8. Veteran's connection to Chickasaw County IA 9. Branch of Service and Unit Served With 10. Supplementary Information you would like to share This should be very interesting. (I wonder who has the most?????) Good Hunting, -Jannette

    1. [IACHICKA-L] Instruction Process for Download
    2. Janette Hendricks
    3. Greetings Everyone, Sometimes I do take many things for granted, so please excuse me for not giving detailed instruction on downloading the Genealogy Forms or the Acrobat Reader. Here is the step process to follow for downloading Acrobat Reader: 1. Click on this hot-link, which takes you to the page where the forms are. http://www.ancestry.com/download/forms.htm#calendar 2. Slowly scroll down the page a short way, till you see the little yellow rectangle (icon) on the right had side of the page which says "Get Acrobat Reader". It is straight across from "Current Offerings". Click on the yellow rectangle - Acrobat Reader Icon. 3. Wait for the page to load up, the scroll down the page to where it says in big letters..... "Get the Acrobat Reader"...... Right below that there are 3 pale yellow rectangular boxes numbered 1., 2., 3. 4. In Rectangle #1 - Select Acrobat Reader version: There are three small windows, where you make some selections so that you get the version of Acrobat that will run on your system. Language - should say "English" Platform - should indicate YOUR computer's operating system -This refers to .....Windows95, Windows98, NT, the older Windows 3.1, etc...... there are a lot of choices, just pick the one that applies to your computer. Click on the little tiny "down" arrow to get the choices, this will be what is called a "drop down menu". When you find the right selection just click it. Location - should say "USA" 5. Then go to Rectangle #2. "Which area are you most interested in???" I clicked on the little circle (called a "radio button") for Personal Graphics. Below that they ask for your e-mail address. You can fill this in if you want, but believe it is optional. I did NOT fill it in and we kept right on going with no problem!!! 6. Next, go to Rectangle #3. Click on the rectangle that says "DOWNLOAD"........ this takes you to another screen. Wait for it to load up fully and you will then get the standard "FILE DOWNLOAD" Window which asks if you want to run the program right now or SAVE to DISK???? -CLICK the button for "SAVE this Program to DISK". -You will then get one more decision window where you tell the computer where to write the file you are about to download. -I suggest you tell it somewhere on your hard drive, as the file is just over 5MB in size (unless you have a Zip or Jazz drive) and then CLICK on the button to the lower right which says "SAVE". The download then commences. -Takes some time, so I'd allow at least 15 minutes for the download to complete, could take longer, depending on a couple technical variables which I won't go into :-) That's all that's to it. Hope this helps anyone who may have had any problems. -Jannette
