    1. [IACHICKA-L] New Hampton Cemetery
    2. Mike Biwer
    3. Hi all!! For those of you that don't live near Chickasaw County I thought I'd make an offer. I live in New Hampton and "stroll" through the New Hampton Cemetery (some people refer to it as St. Mary's Cemetery) almost every evening. So, if you want me to check for a grave stone, let me know and I'll see what I can find. Mary Kay

    3. Thanks for the offer but I really have no excuse to get this done on my own. I live in Waukon, IA, about an hour away. I just get so caught up in reasearching my side in Floyd county (Hoy, Streich, Kellogg, Vorhies) that my wifes side gets put aside sometimes. But we recently put one to rest from this side, so I thought I should put some time into this line. At 10:34 AM 6/20/99 -0500, you wrote: >Bob, >If you need info from Chickasaw co. 3. My Grandmother, Ina POTTER Johnson graduated from Nashua High in 1919. I inherited her pictures when she died and have several pictures of her friends that the family has not remained connected to. I would love to get them to the right place. Names include: Beth and Grace Morse, Grace, Lena, Eva and Myrtle Young. I have had Hoffman pictures, but they did return to the right family. Becky [email protected]

    3. Dear Judy et al, Thanks for your offer. I, for one, do not live anywhere near chickasaw Co. - I,m in Kewanee, IL, which is about 350 miles SE of Chickasaw.I'll think of what you might be able to find in the library for me, and send you a note at your address before the end of July as suggested. I visited the library once, but only had about one hour there, as the rest of the weekend was spent in Charles City, where my dad and grandmother were raised. As for the Courthouse, I spent a lot of time there twice, so doubt that I need anything more there. Does anyone know where people who lived down in the SW end of the county would have gone to school in the 1855-1865 era? Was there a newspaper in the county, or did everyone only have the Floyd Co. paper to read then? (Charles City, that is).If there was one, and the library has old copies, that could be a goldmine for those whose ancestors came in the early years. 2. Wm & Penny Kresl
    3. Hello Chickasaw Researcher's~ I have posted this several times in hopes of finding a little more on this line. Perhaps there are more on the list now. I don't know a lot about this line. They were Farmer's. Andrew SERGEANT was my gg grandfather's brother. About 1876, He moved from Jefferson Co, or Waushara Co, WI and settled in Nashua and New Hampton, Chickasaw co, IA. His daughter Carrie & son, Byron were both married in Chickasaw Co.I have been able to get record of that. I have been able to find a death date of Andrew also, and where he was buried.(Nashua) I have not been able to get a thing more than that after 7 years!! I hope no one gets mad at me posting up to the third generation of Andrew's descendant's, but I am hoping these names ring a bell with some one. I recently found a Mr. Harrison who connected me with the Harrison info on Irma Sergeant. Is there anyone else looking in these two towns or these surnames? 3. I have been trying to track down information about Cynthia Lowe who was born October 15, 1853 in Illinois (according to the census). She married my great-great grandfather, Loren Charles Hance on July 2, 1869 in Chickasaw County, IA, dying there in 1892. In the 1870 census of Chickasaw County, her father is marked as being from Indiana. Her sister Kate Lowe born, 1850 in, IL married John Adam Hance, brother of Loren Charles Hance. Kate died in 1880 in Chickasaw County, IA. Loren Charles Hance and John Adam Hance were sons of Isaac Hance. I have no information as to Cynthia and Kate's parents, but it is believed that they were part Indian. Becky [email protected]

    3. Hello again, It doesn't seem as though this List gets much use. So I decided to pep things up a bit and repost the surnames I'd like to find out more about. My main family in chickasaw, from 1855 - 1890 or so, was the James Preston HAWKINS family. His wife dies in IL, and then he and mostly grown kids moved to chickasaw. However, my ggrandmother, Sarah, and a couple of other kids grew up there and went to school there. It seems like there should be some mention of them somewhere. All I found in the county was land records by the gross, and mention of the two boys who were in the civil War. The people the kids married were: (1) Jane MITCHELL, m. 1857, chickasaw Co., to George A. HAWKINS (2) Jeanette STRONG m. 1 OCT 1880, Chickasaw, to Joshua Davis HAWKINS (3) George SCRIPTURE, who m. 1862 to Catherine Ann HAWKINS, Chickasaw. My own ggrandmother moved on to floyd co and m. Moses BLOOD at Charles City. Hope someone recognizes some of these names and lets the list know. Thanks, Betty Sullivan Judy Matthias wrote: > > Hello, > Since I just signed on I don't have all my surname info ready yet, but > looking for MINKLER and SPEICKER in Chickasaw co, Iowa. > I live close but have only been there a few times. 2. Janette Hendricks
    3. Greetings Everyone, I am researching the following TIERNEYs in Chickasaw County and would like to hear from anyone working on or interested in these families. TIERNEY, Bernard C. (3334) b. 29 Jun 1829 Ire, d. 27 Mar 1902 TIERNEY, Dennis Sr (3125) b. Jun 1833 Ire, d. 03 Apr 1919 TIERNEY, Francis Sr (3387) b. ~1820 Ire, d. 18 Apr 1894 TIERNEY, Matthew (3024) b. Jun 1832 Ire, d. 13 Apr 1911 TIERNEY, Michael (3328) b. ~1832 Ire TIERNEY, Patrick (3353) b. ~1805 Ire TIERNEY, Patrick (3503) b. ~1824 Ire, d. 10 Nov 1869 > TIERNEY, Unknown (4486) estimate born ~1822, -"Unknown" TIERNEY may not have immigrated to the USA "Unknown" TIERNEY is the Father of: -Philipp, Laurence, Mamie, Female, Patrick, and Charles -All these settled in Custer Co Nebraska, but are related to the Chickasaw County TIERNEYs The number in ( ) after each name is the person's ID number in my genealogy database. It's best I attach the ID number all the time because it is much easier to guarantee keeping them straight... ie. I have at least 5 Bernards, 5 or 6 Philipps, 4 Patricks in my database... so it gets tricky!! Thank You, Jannette
