Hello, I am another searcher; hopefully not in vain. I am looking for ties/information on the family and descendants of William Hughes and Catherine (McAndrew) Hughes who lived the last years of their lives in New Hampton, where both are buried. William Hughes worked for the Milwaukee Railroad and later for the public school. He died in 1932 at 107 and was believe at that time to be the oldest living Civil War veteran in the USA. Catherine died in 1902 in her 60's. William lived with my grandmother, Nellie (Hughes) Brown of Fort Dodge, Iowa the last years of his life. William reported that he was born in Co. Mayo, Ireland in 1824 and came to USA in 1840. His parents were Jno Hughes and Catherine (Coyne) Hughes. Catherine was born in Knock Parish, Co May in 1843 or so and emigrated to USA with her mother and brother, Andrew, in 1857. William and Catherine resided originally in Wisconsin and William was a member of the Wisconsin 7th Regiment during the Civil War. After the war--sometime--they moved to Cresco, Iowa and then to New Hampton. What I have found indicates the following were living children in 1932: Mary Rockwell Alice Collins Andrew Hughes Nellie Brown Lizzie Park James Hughes Kate Cotant. Any leads for further information regarding William and/or living descendants would be greatly appreciated. Appreciate folks taking time to read this and maybe checking their memories or sources. Seek information on Thomas RYAN, son of Phillip and Margaret RYAN. He was a native of the village of Gleninchnaveigh, Parish of Upper Church, County Tipperary, Ireland. He and his brother Dennis emigrated to the United States about 1847, settling first in Onondaga County. In 1866 Thomas and Dennis resided in Baraboo, Sauk County, Wisconsin, and Baraboo, Sauk County, Wisconsin. Thomas moved on to Iowa, where we believe he lived in Lawler, Chickasaw County, Clinton, Clinton County, and Independence, Buchanan County. He apparently died before 24 December 1906, when his brother Dennis died in West Point, Columbia County, Wisconsin. Among those who attended the funeral in Sauk City, Wisconsin, were Dennis and Edward RYAN of Independence, Iowa. Thomas also had a granddaughter, Katie McKEEVER who married a WALKER. They had two daughters: Mary E. and Edna F. WALKER. I have been researching the RYAN family for 12 years and have a lot of information I would be happy to share with descendants of these people. dick barr Syracuse, New York
