Greetings Friends, Just a "heads-up" to let you know the web site has been updated. Summary of changes: 1. A few additions to the Surname Matrix have been made 2. There are two new additions in the Churches Section. --Zion Lutheran Church in Alta Vista: includes pictures, a brief historical sketch along with Baptisms and Marriages. --Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton: includes pictures and historical sketches. Watch for the active links on all the pages, indicating there is more information. 3. The Obituary Index from the New Hampton Tribune is up to date now thru July. 4. In "Maps and Photos" Section, I revised the page about Chickasaw County Townships and added additional detail and a drawing which shows the actual evolution of how the townships evolved to the total number of 12. There is lots more good stuff coming, it just requires a lot of time to get the data ready for use on the web site. Your feedback is always welcome, so drop me a line, especially if there is something you particularly like. Take a look at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~iachicka/CK_FrontPage.htm Enjoy, -Jannette

Posted on: Chickasaw County Iowa Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ia/Chickasaw/488 Surname: Smith, Kelly, Short ------------------------- The records went to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Lawler, Iowa. Because St. Ignatius Church as Sacred Heart was called in 1857, burned down in 1910, the earliest records are gone. I was told there were records saved from about 1900.

Posted on: Chickasaw County Iowa Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ia/Chickasaw?read=480 Surname: Dobsen, Dobson, Belzer ------------------------- I am seeking offspring on a Verena Dobson/Dobsen ( I am pretty sure that was her first name) who married Cleave Dobsen/Dobson. Her maiden name would have been Belzer. Her father was Washinton Lincon Belzer and her mother was Susie Belzer. Washington was my great grand uncle. Verena may have had a daughter named Susie as well. In 1955 when Susie Belzer died (Washington's wife), Verena was living in Basset, Iowa in Chickasaw County. I am doing a family search on the Belzer family.
In the photo section of the Chickasaw Co. Website there is a picture that refers to the tornado of May 10, 1918. I am wondering if that is the tornado that took my great grandparents (Herbert and Josephine Hance Potter) home near Bradford? I know that a tornado was the impetus that had them moving to Minnesota. I know that they were in MN by 1919. My grandmother Ina Potter Johnson stayed behind to graduate from Nashua High School and then joined them after that time. There are a couple of old snapshots of what was left of the place, but no date. Becky Frank [email protected]

I have scanned copies of the track, football and basketball teams. These at least have the last names on. Let me know and I will forward to you. My grandmother, Ina Potter Johnson kept a book on her junior and senior years. Some pictures, some stories and newspaper clippings. One of her classmates Robert A. Thompson was killed in action in France on October 8, 1918. I have his picture, too. Becky Frank [email protected]
I have a picture of the 1919 graduating class at Nashua High School If anyone wants a scanned copy please drop me a note. Becky Frank [email protected]
It has been awhile since I have posted this, but maybe there are some new people on the list that might be able to help. I have been trying to track down information about Cynthia Lowe who was born October 15, 1853 in Illinois (according to the census). She married my great-great grandfather, Loren Charles Hance on July 2, 1869 in Chickasaw County, IA, dying there in 1892. In the 1870 census of Chickasaw County, her father is marked as being from Indiana. Her sister Kate Lowe born, 1850 in, IL married John Adam Hance, brother of Loren Charles Hance. Kate died in 1880 in Chickasaw County, IA. Loren Charles Hance and John Adam Hance were sons of Isaac Hance. I have no information as to Cynthia and Kate's parents, but it is believed that they were part Indian. Becky Frank [email protected]
