    3. Hoping someone might want to claim these people who once were in Chicago. SLEPICKA SLEPICA CHICKEN HRUSKA PEAR PEARY CECH SACK HOSEK Michael SLEPICKA, married to Anna HRUSKA, in Chicago, Illinois, August 1879, St. John Nepomucene Roman Catholic Church, parents of nine children, all born in Minneapolis, Minnesota 1884-1902. Martin HRUSKA, age 62, married to Mary HRUSKA, age 50, parents of Anna, Martin (b. 1858, Bohemia), Mary, John (b. 1864, Bohemia), and Barbara (b. 1866, Chicago, IL) (1880 data). Barbara HRUSKA is believed to have married Jan Hosek, 4/22/1893 (Chicago, IL) (IL. on line marriage database). Joseph (Josef) SACK, age 23, husband of Mary HRUSKA, age 25, parents of at least one son, Joseph Sack, born May 1880 (1880 data). Maria CECH, possibly a midwife, possibly related to the above people, single godparent to Slepicka infant who died in first week of life in 1882, Chicago, Illinois. Slepicka and Hruska families are Bohemian immigrants to Chicago, Illinois, abt. 1866. Joseph (Josef) Sack is believed to have been born in Germany and worked as a laborer. He is identified as a laborer in 1880, his in-laws and their children reside with Joseph and his wife and child. Male members of these families involved in wood-molding and machinist work in both Chicago and Minneapolis. Barbara HRUSKA, age 14, born in America, was already listed as a tailor in the 1880 Chicago Census, her brother, John, age 16, born in Bohemia, is an apprentice machinist in the same census. All live at 2713 Portland Avenue, Chicago. Seek connections to Slepicka and Hruska families who remained in Chicago after Michael and Anna Slepicka moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota (1883-4). Families are known to have used variations of their Bohemian surnames: Slepicka > Slepica > Chicken (loose translation of Slepicka (hen)). The Minnesota line descending from Michael and Anna Slepicka uses the name Slepica. The Wisconsin line descending uses the name Chicken. Hruska > Hruskova > Pear > Peary (literal translation of Hruska/Hruskova) Any information welcome. Will share. Elaine Czech List http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~elainetmaddox/index.htm

    1. [IACHICKA] Jones' family
    2. An index of the Iowa 1860 census says there was a George Jones in this county in that year. There were only 6 counties that were not ruled out by middle initials being wrong. I am hoping to find family of my George Jones. He was listed in the Rooks co. Ks census of 1880 as George Newton Jones born in 1853 in Iowa to parents that were both from Illinois. He married my gg grandmother in1875, they had my great grandfather in 1878, in 1883 George Newton Jones disappeared, in 1886 his wife died, and their 3 children were raised by her family. I am looking though for George Newton Jones' siblings ( if he had any) and his parents in Iowa. Clark Jones

    3. Posted on: Chickasaw County Iowa Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ia/Chickasaw/497 Surname: Trask, Jenkins ------------------------- I am seeking information on John W Jenkins & his wife Lydia. Their daughter Lucy married John Trask in chickasaw county. They had 2 other children, William & Ellen. Lydia Jenkins is buried in the Mount Carroll cemetery in the same lot as her son William. Lucy & john Trask are also buried there. I know that John Jenkins bought land in Winneshiek county Iowa & was there with his family in the 1860 census. By the 1870 census Lydia & children were in Chickasaw county but John is not listed in the census. A book on the history of Chickasaw county, in a bio of John & lucy mentions that John Jenkins died in New York but does not list a date. I am intersted in anyone with connections to these Jenkins. I would like to know Lydia's maiden name & any information on John.

    2. As a new viewer of the Chickasaw Co site, I was in awe of how professional, detailed and interesting the site was – definitely one of the best on the internet. Since it has only been in the past couple of months that I discovered my family was from Chickasaw, it has almost been an early Christmas present to discover the site at the same time. I know from a newly found relative how hard Jannette works to keep the site up to date and graphically pleasing. Thank you again from another viewer. 2. Jannette
    3. Greetings Friends, Just a "heads-up" to let you know the Chickasaw County IA web site was updated Sunday night. Summary of changes: 1. A few additions to the Surname Matrix have been made (pages ABC, DEF, WXYZ) 2. In the Churches Section: --Zion Lutheran Church in Alta Vista: The Confirmations and Deaths/Burials have now been added. 3. The County History Section has been revamped to make way for further expansion. You now open on a Table of Contents and then you can go to the Chronology of the County and a new feature called "Main Street of New Hampton in 1875". This has a picture and a brief description of the picture and what was on main street at that time. 4. In "Maps and Photos" Section, I've revised some of the captions on a few of the photographs. 5. In the "Chickasaw County Research" Section: Stapleton Township has been added to the 1906 Directory Pages. (Stay tuned, there's more coming.) Go there: http://www.rootsweb.com/~iachicka/CK_FrontPage.htm Enjoy, -Jannette
