These exerpts came from the Chickasaw County Iowa Cemeteries, Pioneer & Early Established Cemeteries: "The Pearl Rock Catholic Cemetery, 1867-1924, is located on the west side of Highway 218 and is maintained periodically. More than half of the stones are no longer there and many are in unreadable condition. There have been no known burials since 1924. Many burial remains were removed to St. Michael's Cemetery near Nashua. Avis McGregor and Lulu Bigelow canvassed the cemetery on February 12, 1976 and Jeanette Kottke on September 11, 1999. Additional names are included in this publication. This information is taken from obituaries which indicate in the obituary that burial occurred at 'Pearl Rock Cemetery.' In the record these are identified as "Pearl Rock Prot/Cath C.'" On another page is a list of 30+ names of people buried there. Then: "Pearl Rock Protestant a.k.a. Thomas Cemetery is located just north of Pearl Rock Catholic. The burial area is grown with trees and shrubs. It is known there are tombstones hid in the overgrown trees. Further search recently into records by the CCGS and by a descendant of the Ludden family indicate Ludden remains were not moved as earlier believed. Inspection indicates a large stone nearly buried in the area. See a list of names under Pearl Rock Protestant. It is believed that other burial remains were moved to nearby Greenwood and Oak Hill Cemeteries. In 1999, records were reviewed and on September 11, 1999 the site which is in need of clearing was examined by Jeanette Kottke." The list of people buried there contains only the names of four Luddens. There's no explanation of why it's "a.k.a. Thomas Cemetery." As a former Thomas, we are curious to know if anyone knows why the "a.k.a. Thomas Cemetery" was so called prior to The Pearl Rock Catholic Cemetery? Thanks! I had the address wrong the first time. ----- Original Message ----- From: Diana Sereda To: [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, October 17, 2000 8:01 AM Subject: IACHICKA-ROLL CALL WILSON /WILLSON-STATTON Carolyn Graeser sent in a roll call query re WILLSON a couple of weeks ago, and I responded. Carolyn was changing locations and was to email me her new address but hasn't done so. Carolyn if you are out there, please reply- I may have some information for you. Also to all listers, maybe someone can answer a question: I found my WILSON family (Aaron WILSON ,b.ca 1784, Elizabeth Twp. Alleghany PA) on the IGI-it is the correct family, as it fits with the information I have. The Ancestral File on the IGI was from the Family collection of Emma GAWENS. The address given under submitters information was c/o the San Diego Family History Centre. I wrote to Emma at the given address, but the letter was returned saying no one there knew her. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I could contact Emma? Any suggestions or insights would be appreciated. Diana Wilson Sereda Surnames: WILSON, SHANLEY,
Greetings Friends, Just a "heads-up" to let you know the Chickasaw County IA web site has been updated, as of Saturday night. I'm sure some of you were starting to wonder if I had fallen off a log or something? Well, in actual fact, I've been working behind the scenes for several weeks to create the newest section for the web site. Leonard Granger, in California, suggested a new idea a few months ago which I thought sounded rather interesting. He proposed that we ought to have a new section for pictures and short biographies of Chickasaw Co residents. We came up with the name: "Faces of Chickasaw County." Leonard has graciously contributed much of the material from his set of the 1919 County History to get the ball rolling. Now, we are hoping that many of you will contribute your own family pictures of ancestors, etc. Summary of changes: 1. A few additions to the Surname Matrix have been made. 2. In the County History (bottom row of buttons on the Front Page) Section you will find the new addition, known as "The Faces of Chickasaw County." (Sorry, if this doesn't seem like much, however, I can assure you the "Faces" material alone represents several weeks worth of work for both Leonard and myself.) I would appreciate your feedback on the "Faces" material. Let me know if you think this is a good addition to the web site or not. Or if you would rather see emphasis on other sections. Go there: http://www.rootsweb.com/~iachicka/CK_FrontPage.htm Enjoy, -Jannette
