Hello, I'm new to the list and wondering if someone might be able to help me. I'm trying to find information about my GGGrandfather OLIVER PERRY HARPER. I have a page that states: "It is claimed that OLIVER PERRY HARPER made the first entry ever made in Cedar Valley, and who located on the quarter north east of the power plant, now known as Hadley's Island. Mr. Harper, who drowned a few years later in the Cedar River near his sod house, is known, accordingly as the first postmaster of Cedar Valley." I have that he died July 18, 1877. I also have names and dates of several of his children that were born there in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. (Or so the stories go). I'm also trying to find out any information on Oliver's wife PRICILLA JANE HARPER/BUKER. She is said to have died June 2, 1880 in Cedar Rapids. For several years I've been on the wrong path of the HARPER family. Some of the notes I have stated that they were in Cedar Rapids, Cedar River, Nebraska. But after hitting nothing but dead ends and then going on a hunch to look up Iowa I found a Cedar Valley there too. I have several questions. What county would the Cedar River in the Cedar Valley, Iowa be in? Would they have put Cedar Rapids as the biggest town then? Also, does anyone know where they might be buried? Where would the local newspaper have been that might have carried the obit notice for them or birth announcements for the children??? Thank you for ANY help you might be able to give me on this. Sincerely, Jan James ljjames@inreach.com
