I've talked to people at the courthouse in Carroll County, IA and I don't think I could ever access the records for either illegitimate or adoped children because I am not a close enough relative. (Duncan was my great-great uncle.) I have tried to find more information but my only clue now is a glass negative of a baby called Peter Barr baby at Hartington, NE, where Duncan lived. I need to check more census information to rule out another Barr family in the area (I don't believe there was.) I'm filing your email and will respond again if I learn anything there. In the meantime, I'd appreciate hearing more of your findings. Jean
