The library is located in the same building as the Police Station, south of the Carroll County Court House. At the library you have to tell the librarian which month and year you want to look at. The librarian will go to the microfilm room and get the microfilm reel for you, they have the cabinet locked. Then if you find what you want you fill out a form to tell the librarian the date, page and columb you want them to copy, then they look the article up and copy it for you for 25 cents, each. There are some newspapers from the 1800s and early 1900s missing, I have found this out. Some years have months missing altogether. Good luck on your search.

Caroline was born June 5, 1874 in Oppenweiler, Germany. My grandmother's brother, John Schick was born on May 8, 1873, in Reichenberg, an adjoining village to Oppenweiler. Evidently he settled in Bayard,Iowa around 1900. I am interested in obtaining any family information for both of these families. If you have any info please send me an email as I may not find my way back here. Thanks in advance Harold

My search of the 1920 census for Carroll County shows nobody named Pickard. Even using the Soundex spelling, I came up with no hits. Sorry. If they attended St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, you might try contacting the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, which replaced the old St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and the old St. Joseph Catholic Church in the late 1960s. I think that the cemetery you might try would be Mount Olivet Cemetery, located on Grant Road going south from U.S. Highway 30 toward Swan Lake State Park. Mount Olivet Cemetery is a large cemetery, it is also accross the road ( West ) from the Carroll Kuemper Football Practice Field. Kuemper High School is Carroll's Catholic high school and is close to the Holy Spirit Catholic Church. I also know of two funeral homes in Carroll. One is the Sharp Funeral Home on the northern part of town and the other is the Twit Funeral Home which is located on the southern part of town. I am not sure who the care taker is of the Mount Olivet Cemetery, but if you try contacting one of the funeral homes maybe they would know. I hope I was of some help to you. I live in Minnesota, but I grew up in Carroll County. I wish I could move back there again, so I could be of more help.

I have been told it is New Orleans, but have not come up with any proof yet. I am interested in finding out what port he sailed from in Germany. I have very little information on Richard Seeden. Question what village/town Richard Seeden came from in Germany. Need information on Johanna Kampmeier, also. There was a newspaper printed in the German language that was published for a period of time out of Carroll, IA. It contained information about the immigrants from Ostfriesland, Germany. I cannot find my information that I have on the name of this old newspaper. I have not been successful in finding i! t in print.

Lizzie may well be a sister to Otilia. Since my message in March I have found in the record of Roselle, Carroll County, Iowa marriages at the Chancery here in Sioux City that on Nov.22,1881, John Louis Friedmann and Otilia Ziglin were married. So I have finally determined the date of marriage. There were three children: Fred (baptized "Jos."), born 27 Aug 1882 in Carroll County, Iowa, Anton (baptized "John"), born 17 July 1884 in Carroll, and Peter, born 31 May 1886, also I have in Carroll. I do not have a date of death for Louis Friedmann and I do wish I could find that. As mentioned his widow on 18 Aug1888 married John schwarzmeier in Sioux city and died here on 30 June 1927 and was buried in Calvaary Cemetery in sioux city on July 2, 1927. Any thought as to where I could find Louis Friedman's date of death?? All three children were baptized at Roselle, Carroll county, Iowa.
